Marching Terms

1. Set # / Dot
Your exact position on the field.

2. Drill
The movement patterns you follow on the field.

3. Mark Time
Marching in place while keeping your feet moving in time.

4. Full Step (8-to-5)
A standard marching step size (8 steps every 5 yards). 

5. Check / Dress
Aligning yourself with others to make straight lines.

6. Form
The shape the band creates on the field.

7. Horns Up / Horns Down
Commands to bring instruments up to playing position or back down.

8. Hash / Sideline
Field reference points used to help find your position.

9. Drum Major
The "conductors" of the marching band, standing on podiums to keep tempo.
