Hi, I am Shounak Paul, and I am currently a Post Doctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems, Kaiserslautern, Germany. I am part of the Networked Systems Group headed by Prof. Dr. Krishna P. Gummadi, and I work in the areas of application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for analyzing and understanding legal and policy documents.

I completed my Ph.D at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Insitute of Technology, Kharagpur under the supervision of Dr. Pawan Goyal and Dr. Saptarshi Ghosh. My doctoral thesis focused on the application of AI to solving different tasks in the legal domain.

My primary research interests involve understanding how AI can be applied to understanding legal and policy texts, and integrating such methods as useful assistants to domain experts. My current projects involve understanding the legal reasoning capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), as well as operationalizing such models for content moderation on social media platforms.
