If you want an immersive gaming experience with a secure fit for smaller heads and reliable battery life, choose Shokz OpenRun Mini Bone; if you need dedicated IP68 waterproof durability for underwater swimming with built-in MP3 storage, choose MARLALL Swimming Headphones-Bone Conduction. This isn't a close call when your primary use case is gaming or general sports where water immersion isn't the main event. The decision really comes down to whether you prioritize all-day versatility and audio fidelity on land or specialized underwater performance that sacrifices Bluetooth connectivity while submerged.
• Shokz OpenRun Mini Bone: Its biggest strength is the ultra-lightweight design tailored for smaller heads combined with an impressive 8-hour battery life, but it lacks true submersion capability despite its sweat resistance.
• MARLALL Swimming Headphones-Bone Conduction: It shines with IP68 waterproofing and massive 32GB internal storage for offline listening, yet it requires switching to MP3 mode underwater and has no Bluetooth signal transmission beneath the surface.
• The Verdict on Fit: The Shokz pick is for the runner or gamer who needs comfort and stability without bulk, while the MARLALL pick is strictly for the swimmer who demands a device that can survive total immersion.
The Shokz OpenRun Mini Bone is engineered for people who find standard over-ear headphones too heavy or uncomfortable during long sessions. At just 26 grams, this headset uses a nickel-titanium alloy frame that wraps around the head rather than clamping inside the ear canal. This specific design choice makes it ideal for users with smaller head sizes, as the band is 0.83 inches shorter than the standard model, providing a more stable and secure fit that doesn't slip during vigorous movement. If you are looking for the best earphones for gaming or intense cardio, this stability is crucial because you won't have to constantly readjust the device.

The battery performance here is a standout feature for daily users. You get eight hours of continuous playtime, which covers even the longest training sessions or extended gaming marathons. The inclusion of a quick charge function is equally practical; a mere 10-minute charge provides up to 1.5 hours of usage. This means you can grab the headphones before heading out the door, give them a quick top-up while you shower, and still have enough power for your workout. The 8th generation bone conduction technology ensures you stay aware of your surroundings, which is a non-negotiable safety feature for outdoor runners and cyclists.
However, this product is not designed for swimming. While it carries an IP67 rating that protects against sweat and rain, the manufacturer explicitly states it is not suitable for submersion. If your routine involves jumping into a pool or ocean, this unit will fail. Additionally, the audio driver relies entirely on Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, meaning you cannot listen to music stored locally on the device without a paired phone. It is a premium option for land-based activities where sound quality and clarity are paramount, offering crisp calls and a seamless connection up to 33 feet away from your source.
The MARLALL Swimming Headphones-Bone Conduction is a specialized tool built for one dominant environment: water. With an IP68 waterproof rating, these headphones are constructed to withstand full immersion, making them the only logical choice for swimmers, snorkelers, and divers. Unlike the Shokz, which resists moisture, the MARLALL unit features a nano-coated sealed design that protects the internal components from pool chlorine, saltwater, and deep pressure. The material used is premium liquid silicone, which conforms to the ears comfortably and resists damage from harsh aquatic environments, ensuring zero pressure points even after hours of wear.
What truly sets this device apart is the 32GB of built-in memory. Since Bluetooth signals cannot transmit through water, the MARLALL headphones switch to MP3 mode when submerged. This allows you to store up to 8,000 songs directly on the device, so you don't need to carry your phone into the pool. You can create playlists on a computer via the magnetic charging cable and dive straight into your music without any tethering issues. This feature makes it an excellent choice for athletes who want complete freedom in the water without worrying about water-damaged electronics or lost connections.
The connectivity is powered by Bluetooth 5.4, offering superior stability and interference resistance when you are out of the water. You get a range of up to 10 meters (33 feet), allowing for hands-free calling and streaming on land with ease. The weight is incredibly low at 22.68 grams, making it feel almost weightless on your head. However, there is a significant trade-off: you must remember to dry the microphone after every swim to prevent call issues, and you cannot stream music wirelessly while underwater. This device is for the serious swimmer who treats the sport as a primary activity, prioritizing waterproof integrity over the convenience of wireless streaming in the pool.
• Best for Gaming: The Shokz OpenRun Mini Bone offers a more stable fit for smaller heads and better overall comfort for long sessions, making it the superior headset for gaming.
• Best for Swimming: The MARLALL Swimming Headphones-Bone Conduction is the only viable option for actual underwater use due to its IP68 rating and lack of Bluetooth dependency underwater.
• Best Battery Life: Shokz wins with 8 hours of playback plus a quick charge feature that gets you back in action in minutes.
• Best Storage Capacity: MARLALL takes this category with 32GB of internal storage, eliminating the need for a phone entirely during workouts.
• Best Connectivity Standard: MARLALL uses the newer Bluetooth 5.4 chip, theoretically offering faster pairing and better resistance to interference compared to Shokz's 5.1.
• Best Weight: MARLALL is slightly lighter at 22.68g versus 26g, though both are featherlight by industry standards.
• Best Safety Awareness: Both utilize bone conduction to keep ears open, but Shokz includes a moisture detection alert for safe charging, adding a layer of protection for the user.
• Best Value for Versatility: If you do a mix of running, cycling, and gym work, Shokz is the more versatile companion for land-based activities.
If I were building a setup specifically for gaming, I would buy the Shokz OpenRun Mini Bone. The combination of the secure wraparound frame, the lighter weight for extended wear, and the robust 8-hour battery life creates a much better experience for long sessions than the MARLALL. The Shokz feels more like a dedicated piece of audio gear for active lifestyles where you need reliability and comfort. While the MARLALL is a marvel of engineering for swimmers, it feels too specialized for a general user or a gamer who needs consistent Bluetooth streaming and high-quality audio fidelity on land. For the average buyer who wants a reliable pair of bone conduction headphones for everything except diving, the Shokz is the clear winner.
Both support bone conduction, but the Shokz OpenRun Mini is generally better for gaming due to its secure fit for smaller heads and longer battery life, whereas the MARLALL is optimized for swimming.
No, the Shokz OpenRun Mini is rated IP67 for sweat and rain but is explicitly not suitable for swimming or submersion in water.
No, the MARLALL headphones have 32GB of internal memory, allowing you to load music directly onto the device and listen without a phone once switched to MP3 mode.
The Shokz OpenRun Mini offers a quick charge feature that provides 1.5 hours of listening time from just a 10-minute charge, while the MARLALL does not specify a quick charge metric in its data sheet.
