If you want a complete towing transformation that turns your fifth-wheel rig into a smoother, more manageable gooseneck setup with built-in air suspension, choose Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th; if you need a simple, direct-fit replacement flip ball hitch specifically for a 2005 Ford F350 to swap out a worn unit, choose Technical Precision TP 25/16. These two products serve entirely different masters in the towing world, and confusing them is a recipe for a bad purchase. One is a complex conversion system designed to overhaul your entire hitching experience, while the other is a single-component hardware piece meant to fit a specific truck model perfectly.
• Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th: Its biggest strength is the integrated air ride system that absorbs road shock and reduces wear on both truck and camper frames; its trade-off is the massive scope of installation since it replaces the factory pin box entirely. This pick is for owners of campers with Lippert Turning Point pin boxes who want to convert to gooseneck towing and prioritize ride comfort.
• Technical Precision TP 25/16: Its biggest strength is being an engineered, direct-fit replacement for the 2005 Ford F350 flip ball hitch; its trade-off is that it offers no suspension technology or conversion capabilities, just a standard mechanical connection. This pick is for F350 owners needing a straightforward swap for their existing gooseneck ball mount without changing their towing configuration.
This product is not merely a hitch; it is a complete ecosystem upgrade for anyone towing a heavy camper with a Lippert Turning Point pin box. The core of this kit is the Shift Lock Coupler Conversion Kit, which completely replaces your factory fifth-wheel box with a gooseneck pin box. Once that new pin box is installed, the Shocker Gooseneck Surge® air hitch installs in minutes. The result is a towing setup that fundamentally changes how the vehicle handles the trailer. The air ride system directs tow resistance through an air spring bag, creating a cushion that acts as the best device available to absorb the jarring tugs, jerks, and bumps found on rough roads or concrete highways.
The design philosophy here focuses heavily on protection and versatility. By utilizing a rocker arm pivot design, the hitch produces front-to-back motion that differs significantly from other cushion hitches that rely on parallel linkages, shock absorbers, or torsion arms. For truck owners, this means getting their bed back. Converting to gooseneck towing removes the bulky fifth-wheel slider and lowers the tongue weight in the bed, providing better control and eliminating the "chucking" sensation often associated with taller fifth wheels.
Who should buy this? You are the ideal candidate if you own a pickup with a 5-foot-7-inch bed up to an 8-foot bed and currently have a camper equipped with a Lippert Turning Point pin box. The 3-inch offset extender coupler is engineered to work nicely across all these bed lengths, ensuring cab and bed clearance even on the shortest beds. If you frequently drive on uneven terrain or worry about stress on your vehicle's frame and welds, this system is designed to reduce breakage and wear tear on everything from the truck to the cargo inside. However, you should skip this if you do not have a Lippert Turning Point pin box, as the kit is exclusive to that specific component, or if you are looking for a quick bolt-on part that doesn't require replacing your entire kingpin assembly. Note that the kit does not include pin box bolts, relying on your existing bolts for installation.

In stark contrast to the comprehensive conversion kit, the Technical Precision TP 25/16 is a focused solution for a very specific problem. This item is a 25/16 inch gooseneck flip ball hitch engineered strictly as a direct-fit aftermarket replacement for the 2005 Ford F350. There is no air suspension, no pin box replacement, and no conversion capability here. It is a solid piece of carbon and steel hardware designed to slot directly into the bed of a 2005 F350 where the original hitch has failed or needs upgrading.
The value proposition here is simplicity and compatibility. The manufacturer has engineered this unit to be a direct-fit replacement, meaning the goal is to restore the functionality of your gooseneck towing setup without any modification or additional parts. It is a single unit per sale, comprising the essential flipping mechanism and the 25/16 inch ball interface required for standard gooseneck trailers. This product assumes you already have the correct mounting points and are simply looking to replace the ball mount itself.
Who should buy this? You are the target user if you own a 2005 Ford F350 and need to replace a damaged or missing gooseneck flip ball hitch. If your current setup is a standard gooseneck and you just need a durable, compatible ball mount, this is the tool for the job. It is not suitable for anyone trying to convert a fifth-wheel trailer to a gooseneck, nor does it offer any suspension benefits to smooth out the ride. It is purely a mechanical connector. If your truck is not a 2005 F350, this part will not fit, so verify your vehicle year and model before considering this option. It is a utilitarian piece of equipment for those who know exactly what they need and don't want a complicated conversion process.
• Best for Ride Comfort → Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th: Only the Shocker system offers the air ride technology and rocker arm pivot design to eliminate road shock and provide a smoother tow.
• Best for Specific Truck Fitment → Technical Precision TP 25/16: This is the only choice if you are driving a 2005 Ford F350 and need a direct-fit replacement for your existing gooseneck ball.
• Best for Fifth-Wheel Conversion → Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th: If you want to turn a fifth-wheel camper into a gooseneck setup, the Shocker kit is the only viable path as it replaces the pin box entirely.
• Best for Bed Space Optimization → Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th: Converting to gooseneck towing with this kit frees up truck bed space by removing the need for a bulky fifth-wheel slider.
• Best for Simple Replacement → Technical Precision TP 25/16: If your current hitch works but the ball is broken, this is a straightforward swap without the complexity of a full system overhaul.
• Best for Short Bed Trucks → Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th: The 3-inch offset extender coupler ensures clearance for trucks as short as 5'7", a feature not present in standard flip balls.
• Best for Frame Protection → Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th: The air spring bag reduces stress on the truck and camper frame, potentially preventing long-term structural damage from towing shocks.
I would buy the Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th if I were looking to upgrade my towing experience for general use, especially if I had a fifth-wheel camper that needed converting. The ability to absorb road shock and protect my vehicle's frame makes it a superior engineering solution for long-distance travel. However, for the specific task of car washing, neither product is designed for cleaning vehicles, but if we must choose based on utility, the Shocker system's ability to handle heavy loads smoothly is far more valuable than a simple static hitch. Ultimately, the Technical Precision TP 25/16 is a niche part for a specific year of truck, whereas the Shocker kit transforms your entire towing dynamic. In my opinion, unless you own a 2005 F350 with a broken flip ball, the Shocker Hitch Quick Air® 5th offers significantly more value and capability for the serious tow owner.
It includes a complete replacement gooseneck pin box specifically designed for that manufacturer's interface.
No, this is a carbon and steel gooseneck flip ball hitch designed as a direct-fit replacement. It provides a standard mechanical connection without the air ride system or shock absorption found in conversion kits.
