Maker Club
The Maker Club took place from January 23rd- April 10th on Tuesdays after school. The club was held in both the art and technology/wood shop rooms. The projects were displayed on April 11th, from 5-7pm at the SHMS Student Showcase.
Maker Club Art Project Focus: Create a Funky Chair. Yes, we received a shipment of unfinished chairs; lots of wooden pieces just waiting for students to be challenged in assembling, cutting wood for seats and upholstering them, and finally adding their creative touch. Students had an opportunity to engage in other projects as well. Those with an art emphasis were made in the art room (#120) and projects with a technology emphasis were made in the technology/wood shop room next door. If you have any questions, please ask Mrs. Fennelly or Mrs. McClaskey.
Southern Hills Students Win Six Scholastic Regional Awards
Congratulations to the six students who won Scholastic Art Awards this year. It is amazing that our students have won 29 regional awards in the past five years. The two students who won Gold Key Awards will have their work judged at the National level for medal contention. We have had two National Medalists in the past three years, and only the top 1% of work is considered at that level.
Scholastic Arts Awards Ceremony: March 11, 2018
The Awards ceremony was held at the History Colorado Center on Sunday, March 11th. It was wonderful to have 100% family participation again this year at the ceremony and art show. Mrs. Fennelly will return artwork on April 2nd at school.
