Intermolecular Dynamics in Liquids/Solutions

Because the intermolecular dynamics of solvents influences the barrier-crossing processes in chemical reactions, biological processes, and relaxations in solutions (e.g., electron transfer, proton transfer, and protein folding) studies on the ultrafast dynamics in liquid/solutions are essential.

Intermolecular vibrations in liquids/solutions appear at the low-frequency region (typically below 200 cm-1). The intermolecular vibration's spectral band in liquids/solutions is very broad compared to the intramolecular vibration's one.

We are studying the low-frequency vibrational motions in not only simple molecular liquids, but also complex liquids such as ionic liquids and polymer solutions using fs-RIKES.
