The "WAGO" Series - Sound of Heart -

The "WAGO" series focuses on the interconnectedness of hands and feet in the intimate encounters depicted in Shunga, or erotic art. Kaneko pays particular attention to these limbs in Shunga expression, recognizing them as the most revealing aspects of the intimate interactions between men and women. By sculpting only the hands and feet and bringing them into three-dimensional form from a two-dimensional plane, the works emphasize the boundaries and points of connection.

"WAGO - Sound of Heart" draws inspiration from the Shunga prints of Utagawa Kunisada. It represents the intertwining of hands by likening their shape when clasped together to that of a heart, symbolizing its beat. Created using a transparent material evocative of amber, resin is employed to capture the gradual yellowing process, allowing viewers to appreciate its changing appearance over time.

(Note: The artwork is from the artist's collection, dating back six years from its creation.)
