✦ Do you have any routines you follow to prepare before a photoshoot?
Sumin: The day before a photoshoot, I always use a face mask. If you chill the mask in the fridge before using it, it helps reduce puffiness and makes your makeup look better.
Isa: I focus on de-puffing, too. I also check what kind of concept the shoot will have and think about what mindset I should bring to it.
✦ Have you started any new habits or found new interests recently?
Sumin: I’m really into boxing these days. Writing lyrics has also become a new source of joy for me. I tried climbing for the first time, and it was surprisingly fun—I feel like I might have a talent for it, so I want to keep at it.
Isa: For about a year now, I’ve had this routine where, as soon as I get back to our dorm, I always wipe my phone with an alcohol wipe. Lately, I’ve also gotten hooked on cleaning everywhere with a lint roller.
✦ What’s your secret to enjoying summer, and what are your plans for this summer?
Sumin: My favorite way to relax is just to lounge around in bed, feeling the cool breeze. This summer, we have the ‘STAYTUNED’ world tour, so I’m really looking forward to meeting lots of SWITH (our fans).
Isa: I think the key is to stay cool and avoid getting too much sun. This summer, I want to see the ocean a lot. Since we’ll be on tour, I’m also really excited to experience summer overseas.
✦ Can you share any memorable episodes from your activities with ‘BEBE’ in the first half of 2025?
Sumin: For the album jacket and MV shoots, I wore a wig. When our full-scale activities started, I bleached my hair to platinum blonde, and I think it made me look even more charismatic on stage. I saw a comment that said, "Is this really the cute Sumin I knew?!" and it made me secretly happy.
Isa: There were a lot of performances in ‘BEBE’ where I had to whip my hair around. I tried to be careful so my hair wouldn’t get caught on my eyelashes or face, but it still happened a few times, which was a bit disappointing. But I was happy when people said, "The hair-whipping performance was really impressive."
✦ ‘STAY TUNED in Seoul’ was a huge success. Do you have any stories from the preparation process?
Sumin: This time, I was directly involved from the early stages, like planning the stage and creating the setlist. It was memorable to share my ideas and work with lots of people to put everything together. Because of that, I felt even more attached to and understanding of the concert. After the show, I can’t forget seeing SWITH with sparkling eyes saying, "It was even more fun and amazing than I expected!"
Isa: I caught the flu during preparations, so I was worried. Luckily, I recovered two or three days before the concert, but I kept practicing as much as I could until then. Since I was also practicing for ‘BEBE’ activities at the same time, our fans were really worried about me… Their letters and messages through the app, checking on my condition, gave me a lot of strength. I kept telling myself, "Get better soon and make this a concert fans will be glad they came to." I think I was able to grow a lot through that experience.
✦ Outside of STAYC activities, what would you say is your personal keyword for the first half of 2025?
Sumin: Challenge. Not just new concepts, but I also tried new fields like acting and variety shows.
Isa: Growth.
✦ Take this opportunity to share each other’s strengths.
Sumin: Isa really has so many strengths. She faces all kinds of challenges and changes in her own style, and she’s established her character with her unique voice and dance lines. She’s diligent, hardworking, and cares about those around her, not just herself. I’m positively influenced by Isa, too.
Isa: Sumin handles any task she’s given quickly and efficiently. That’s something I want to learn from her. She never puts things off and always gets things done, so we can rely on her, and it creates a good synergy for everyone.
✦ How do you “handle” each other?
Sumin: Isa is easy to handle. Just let her do what she wants, freely and happily. That’s the most important thing.
Isa: Let Sumin sleep well and listen to her stories—that makes her happy.
✦ Is there any part of each other’s charm that you’d like to make your own?
Sumin: Isa’s straightforward personality.
Isa: Sumin’s bright smile.
✦ ‘Kitto’ is read by people all over the world, including in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Do you have any memorable stories from traveling to these countries?
Sumin: My first trip abroad was to Thailand, so it left a strong impression on me. I went swimming with my family and even tried sea walking.
Isa: After finishing our schedule in Japan, I once enjoyed a solo trip. I looked for different restaurants for dinner and went out to eat alone. Every restaurant I went to was really good, so I saved the locations, thinking I’d like to go back with the members next time.
✦ We also enjoy watching STAYC’s YouTube content. If you could collaborate with someone outside the group, who would it be and what kind of content would you like to create?
Sumin: I love makeup, so I’d like to have my makeup done by RISABAE.
Isa: I’m interested in shows that Jang Do-yeon sunbaenim appears on. I’d like to make content where we chat together and help viewers relax.
✦ Isa, you’ve previously mentioned your interest in seasonal songs like refreshing summer pop and carols for the end of the year. Please recommend some summer pop songs and give the playlist a title.
Isa: My recommendations are Doyoung’s "Dallas Love Field," SISTAR’s "Loving U," Girls’ Generation’s "PARTY," F(x)’s "Shadow," and TXT’s "I’ll See You There Tomorrow." The playlist title is "A collection of feel-good summer songs that make you think of sparkling blue skies and the ocean."
✦ Sumin, you’ve said you’d like to perform a cheering song like Girls’ Generation’s "힘 내!(Way To Go!)" someday. Please choose some cheering songs you’d want to listen to on the world tour and give the playlist a title.
Sumin: DAY6’s "HAPPY" and Younha’s "Sunfish." I want to name the playlist "행땅 (Haengtang)," which is my own word derived from "행복만땅" (full of happiness).
✦ In 2021, when STAYC released their 1st mini album ‘STEREOTYPE’ and was about to celebrate their first anniversary, you were asked in an interview, "What sets STAYC apart from other groups?"
At that time, Sumin answered, "Our greeting is really loud. Even we think, ‘Wow, we’re really loud!’" Isa said, "I think our live singing without AR (audio backtrack) felt fresh to people."
Now, as you’re about to celebrate your 5th anniversary, we asked you the same question again. What do you think is STAYC’s unique charm?
Sumin: After spending five years together, I really think it’s our teamwork. We’re a group of people who truly get along, always listening to each other and giving advice, which has deepened our bond. That’s why, whenever something happens or I have worries, it’s natural for me to talk to the members first.
Isa: No matter what kind of concept we sing, I think our "STAYC-ness" comes through clearly. I feel that’s why so many people love our cover stages and songs, too.
✦ In another five years, you’ll be celebrating your 10th anniversary. Please leave a message for your future self and the other members.
Sumin: Thank you for putting up with my mischief for 10 years. Let’s all stay healthy and keep sharing happiness together forever.
Isa: Are you doing well? Just sticking with something for this long is amazing. Let’s keep having fun doing what we want to do. Fighting!
✦ Based on today’s shoot concept, please give each other a fitting nickname.
Sumin: President Isa.
Isa: Bae Sumin-chan.
