STAYC released their sixth single in Japan, "Lover, Killer / BEBE -Japanese Ver.-," in June.
It has been a year and a half since STAYC last appeared on Bezzy! Just after finishing the first day of the Japanese leg of their first world tour, "2025 STAYC TOUR [STAY TUNED]," in Osaka, we caught up with the group to talk about the tour, their new songs, and even delve into some private matters. Meeting all six members again, they exuded a truly mature vibe. The concept of this release is said to be a transformation from the cute image STAYC has had until now.

STAYC
| "I like 'Lover, Killer' so much, it ranks in my top three."
── First, please tell us your impressions of the recently finished "2025 STAYC TOUR [STAY TUNED] in Japan" Osaka concert.
Sieun: It had been a while since we visited Osaka, and I was happy to see SWITH (the name for STAYC fans) after so long. Japanese SWITH, who had come all the way to our fan sign event in Korea, told me, "We're waiting for your concert in Japan!" Being able to do our first concert in Japan made me so happy. Thanks to all the SWITH, we've created another precious memory.
── As Sieun mentioned, this was your first concert in Japan. And it was also the Japanese leg of your world tour that started in Seoul this April. What were the highlights?
Sumin: In Japan, we had a special setlist. Since we released our 6th Japanese single, "Lover, Killer / BEBE -Japanese Ver.-," on June 4th, we performed the new songs live. We even included more Japanese tracks during the encore, so we were able to enjoy the show together with Japanese SWITH.
Sumin
── "Lover, Killer" is an original Japanese song, so wasn't it exciting to perform it live for the first time?
Sieun: Isa: Yes. When I said during the MC, "'Lover, Killer' will be performed!" there was a huge "Waaaaah!" from the crowd (laughs). I was really surprised, but it seemed everyone was happy. When we actually performed on stage, everyone was so lively, and that made us happy too.
J: Yes, the first live performance of "Lover, Killer" was really special. Like Sieun said earlier, it was our very first concert in Japan, so that made it all the more significant. We had so much fun on stage, and we were so glad to be able to make such wonderful memories with Japanese SWITH again.
── Was there anything you felt was unique to Japan?
Isa: In Japan, you have uchiwa (fans) with members' photos on them as goods, right? This time, there were new uchiwa as well, and looking out into the audience, I could see both older and newer versions with different member photos—it was a lot of fun for me. But I think my uchiwa was the cutest (laughs).
── After the Japan concerts, you'll continue to tour Asia and Oceania, and even perform in America and Canada in October. It's going to be a long journey.
Seeun: After finishing the Korea concerts, the overseas tour started from Japan. The fans gave us so much energy that, I didn't feel tired at all, compared to when we were practicing. I feel like I can keep going, no problem (laughs). I think I can do my best until the very end.
Seeun
── You'll be traveling to many countries from now on—what are you looking forward to?
Yoon: Eating! First of all, since we're in Japan, I have to eat lots of delicious Japanese food! And in every country we visit after that, I want to make sure to try at least one local specialty. If we get any breaks during the concerts, I'd also like to go sightseeing.
Sumin: I'd like to drink a cafe latte in America. American lattes taste so good to me (laughs). I wonder why?
Sieun: Ah, I get that! The latte I had in LA was really delicious. It's a bit different from Korean lattes. Personally, since we'll be touring hot countries like Thailand and Jakarta, I'm hoping I'll get to eat some delicious fruits.
── Please enjoy your world tour! Next, I'd like to ask about your new song. First, could you tell us about the Japanese original song, "Lover, Killer"?
Sieun: It's a love song, but it's not sweet—instead, we presented it in a cool way. I think it's a hybrid of J-POP, K-POP, and R&B. Actually, "Lover, Killer" originally competed to be the title track with "Teddy Bear," which we released in February 2023, but it was put on hold. We're really happy that it finally got released in Japan.

── So, it was a song you've had for two years. Do you remember your impression when you first heard it back then?
Isa: Based on my first impressions of all the songs I've heard so far, this is one of my top three favorites. So when it competed with "Teddy Bear," I thought, "I want to do this song soon!" but two years ended up passing (laughs). I was really looking forward to seeing what kind of performance it would become, so I wanted it to be released as soon as possible.
Seeun: "Teddy Bear" is a really cute song, right? We'd been doing a lot of cute songs, so personally, I wanted to do a cool song like "Lover, Killer"...
── When "Teddy Bear" became the title track, what did producer Rado say?
Sieun: He said, "I think now is the time to go with 'Teddy Bear.' Please trust the producer." After that, I'd constantly wondered when "Lover, Killer" would be released, so I'm truly happy that we've been able to share it with the world like this.

| I don’t think there’s any side of ourselves we haven’t shown to our fans
── The performance video for "Lover, Killer" was shot outdoors, wasn’t it?
Yoon: Yes. Since we filmed at night, I think we finished around 1 or 2 a.m. I remember we had to sprinkle water on the floor over and over again. Because we filmed near the sea, I remember laughing and saying, "If we’re going to use that much water, shouldn’t we just bring some seawater over?" (laughs)
── What should viewers look out for in the performance video?
Sumin: There’s choreography in "Lover, Killer" where after we make a heart, we shape our mouths like killers. I think that really epitomizes what "Lover, Killer" is all about.
STAYC "Lover, Killer" Performance Video Behind
── There’s a lyric in "Lover, Killer": "When you wake up, you’ll fall in love with me all at once." Has there been anything lately that made you fall in love instantly?
Sumin: I’ve only done it once, but I fell in love with climbing. It was so much fun, I want to do it again as soon as possible!
── Wow! Did you make it all the way to the top?
Sumin: Of course I did!
Isa: I’ve really gotten into redecorating my room. I want to sleep deeply, and I also find it fun to switch up the interior. Right now, I’m plotting to get a new body pillow.
── What kind of body pillow do you like?
Isa: I want one that feels firm and satisfying when I hug it.
J: Usually, I don’t eat much ramen, but recently I’ve been really into it (laughs). Not the restaurant kind, but Korean instant noodles. The soup is so tasty that I’ve been buying and comparing different kinds.
J
── Do you have a favorite?
J: I haven’t found "the one" yet—I’m still searching.
Seeun: I’ve been dreaming of solo travel, so I often watch videos by YouTubers who travel alone.
── Where would you like to go?
Seeun: I heard there are lots of small towns in Japan. I want to visit little towns we never go to for concerts.
Yoon: For me, it’s exercising. I hadn’t been able to work out recently, but now that the concerts in Korea are over, I’ve started again.
Yoon
── What kind of training do you do?
Yoon: Pilates, working out at the gym, fun cardio exercises, and badminton.
Sieun: Lately, I’ve been interested in camping and massages. I hadn’t been really into camping, but when I tried it once, it was a blast. In Korea, watching a campfire and zoning out—called "*[불멍 (bulmong)]"—is popular now, so I recommend it. As for massages, I like getting massages for different parts of my body and collecting massage goods. Of course, I also go to massage salons. What started as self-care, I’ve honestly gotten hooked on.
── The other song on your single, "BEBE-Japanese Ver.-," is a Japanese version of your Korean track.
Isa: "BEBE-Japanese Ver.-" is a song where we can show a new concept and new side of STAYC. For me, the intro is especially memorable.
── You can really see a cool side of STAYC that’s nothing like your previous cute image. I was honestly surprised.
Sieun: Right! That was exactly our intention (laughs). Everyone has a certain image of STAYC, but with "BEBE-Japanese Ver.-" we wanted to show our real selves, not just the image fans usually enjoy. Since you said you were surprised, I’d say we succeeded!
STAYC "BEBE -Japanese Ver." Performance Video
── Like with "BEBE," is there a side of STAYC that you still haven’t shown your fans?
Sumin: I feel like there’s nothing about us we haven’t already shown our fans... If anything, our true selves are STAYC just hanging out and goofing around like school friends (laughs).

| The sauna we all went into together was so hot we thought we might melt (laughs)
── Now that we’ve heard about the group, what about as individuals? Tell us who you really are.
Sumin: I’m a straightforward and simple person, but maybe that makes me complex and difficult in my own way. To be honest, I still don’t fully understand myself, but I think “straightforward” is the best word to describe who I am right now.
Isa: I think I’m someone who is cheerful, calm, and likes taking in the good qualities of the people around me.
Isa
J: Maybe I’m actually more sentimental than I look? I like being alone, but I can also get a little lonely sometimes. I think I’m a bit of a complicated type (laughs). But I think I’m someone who’s fun to be with.
Seeun: I’m shy around people, but once I get close, I talk a lot (laughs). I like people, but I don’t love actually meeting them. I’m someone who values time alone.
Yoon: It’s hard to sum up my personality in words… Sometimes I’m noisy, sometimes I’m quiet; sometimes I mess around, sometimes I sit still. But I think that’s just who I am. If I had to put it into words… I’d say I’m a transparent person. I’m straightforward and easy to read. I put everything out there. Just recently, someone I met for the first time said, “I’ve never seen a celebrity as transparent as you.” I think my thoughts are easy for people to pick up on.
── That’s a wonderful way to put it, “a transparent person.”
Yoon: Yes, it’s an expression we use in Korea.
Sieun: For me, I’d say I’m multifaceted… Because I’m a perfectionist, I can be difficult and get worn out, but I also have some scatterbrained sides too. At the same time, I’m really open, a bit of a loner, and I can be deeply emotional. I’m reliable and persistent, but I have fragile sides too.
── You’re all very human. Apparently, there are some highlight dances in “BEBE-Japanese Ver.-.”
Sumin: Yes, there are two main point dances. The first, “Burnout Dance,” is where we grab our heads. It looks like we’re burning up, so that’s what gave it the name. Then there’s the “Laser Dance,” where all of us move from right to left as if we’re scanning the room with lasers.
STAYC “BEBE -Japanese Ver.” Performance Video Behind
── Very catchy. It’s been a year and a half since STAYC last appeared here. Looking back, what stands out from that time?
Sumin: Over that year and a half, what stands out is holding the “STAYC FAN Concert ‘STAYC MOVIE CLUB’ in Japan” in both Japan and Korea.
Sieun: At that time, I sang the OST “Star” from the drama “Our Blues.” Watching the video during rehearsal the day before the Korea concert, which showed photos from all our activities so far, really got to me. When we sang “Star” again for the encore in the main show, many fans were crying, and seeing that made me cry too.
After that, we did the “2025 STAYC TOUR [STAY TUNED]” in both Korea and Japan. We didn’t have much time to prepare, but we worked hard. I felt relieved to finish it successfully. We were also able to complete our activities and concerts in Japan for “Lover, Killer / BEBE-Japanese Ver.-,” so now I feel at ease. But the tour is not over yet, so I’ll keep giving it my all!
Sieun
── How about offstage?
Sieun: Filming a reality show and spending a night at Sumin’s house with everyone was a fun memory.
Sumin: We all baked and ate sweet potatoes together. Then, all of us went in the sauna at my house, and it was so hot we thought we’d melt (laughs).
Isa: That trip was really fun. Since we each have our own rooms at our dorm, it was memorable to sleep together in a big room like that.
── It already feels like “summer!” Finally, tell us one thing you want to do this summer.
Sieun: My birthday is in summer. Last year, our flight back from LA was delayed and I couldn’t go to the birthday café *[생일 카페 (saeng-il kape)] my fans had prepared for me—a themed café decorated and stocked with goods just for my birthday. It looks like I’ll be 100% busy this summer too, but this time for sure, I want to go.
Yoon: I want to eat “subak hwachae” (*[수박화채] watermelon punch). Is it not available in Japan? It’s a Korean-style fruit punch for summertime: watermelon and other fruits mixed with fizzy soda. It’s something families in Korea often have at home in the summer.
Seeun: I want to go snorkeling.
── Have you done it before?
Seeun: No, I’ve only seen it on YouTube travel channels (laughs).
J: I want to see the ocean. I couldn’t go last year, so hopefully this year I can!
Isa: I want to go to a water park. I’m making plans, but I’m still not sure if I’ll be able to... I hope I can make it happen.
Sumin: I… probably won’t get to do this, but if I could, I’d like to blast the AC at home, stay in bed all day, and just laze around. I hope you all have a wonderful summer too!
