Privacy Policy for Shift Enter to Send for YouTube

Shift Enter to Send for YouTube is a Chrome extension that prevents accidental message submission in YouTube live chat and sends a message only when Shift+Enter is pressed.

Data processed on the user’s device

The extension locally accesses the current YouTube live chat input only to determine whether the input is empty before invoking YouTube’s existing send button.

The extension also processes keyboard event information, such as whether Enter, Shift, another modifier key, or an IME composition event is active. This processing is required to provide the extension’s stated functionality.

The extension locally and temporarily processes keyboard events and the contents of the YouTube live chat input field solely to provide its Shift+Enter sending functionality. This data is not retained, logged, transmitted to the developer, or transmitted to any external server by the extension. 

All processing occurs temporarily on the user’s device.

Data collection, storage, and transmission

The developer does not receive or retain the contents of live chat messages or keyboard input. 

The extension does not:

- store or log chat input;

- transmit chat input or keyboard information;

- use analytics or telemetry;

- make its own network requests to developer-controlled or third-party servers; 

- sell or share user data;

- use advertising or tracking services; or

- use remotely hosted code or third-party libraries.

The extension does not maintain a server or user account.

Permissions and website access

The extension runs only on YouTube live chat pages matching:

https://www.youtube.com/live_chat*

This access is used exclusively to intercept Enter key events in the live chat input and to invoke YouTube’s existing send button when Shift+Enter is pressed.

The extension does not operate on other YouTube pages or unrelated websites.

Message submission

Messages are submitted through YouTube’s existing interface. YouTube’s handling of submitted messages is governed by YouTube’s own terms and privacy policy. The extension does not receive a copy of submitted messages.

Data retention and deletion

The extension does not retain user data. No additional data cleanup is required when the extension is uninstalled.

The extension’s use of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. 

Changes to this policy

If the extension’s data practices change, this privacy policy and the disclosures in the Chrome Web Store will be updated before the changed version is published.
