There are seven scheduled dual swim meets against clubs in the Northern Division of GSSSL per summer season. We will have 3 home meets & 4 away meets (or vice versa-alternating years). Dual swim meets are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from late June through mid-July.
B-Champs is a championship meet where all Northern Division swimmers who have not qualified for a Prelim Meet can race against each other. Swimmers who are close to qualifying times have one more opportunity to achieve a qualifying time at B-Champs. There are no relays at B-Champs. If a swimmer earns a Prelim qualifying time at B-Champs, they will advance to Prelims.
***Once a swimmer begins the championship meet sequence (Prelims, Northern Divisions, All-City) no changes to the swim line-up can be made (relays or individual events). A swimmer must be able to participate all the way through to All City Meet should they qualify. Coaches will work with swimmers and families to enter swimmers into events***
Swimmers qualify for the Prelim Meets by swimming a qualifying time in a GSSSL Dual Meet or a B-Champs race. Two Prelim Meets are held each season; Girl's Prelims (all odd numbered events) and Boy's Prelims (all even numbered events). All swimmers who have earned a qualifying time in one or more events can compete in four four events total with a maximum of 3 individual events and 1 relay or 2 individual events and 2 relays at Prelims. There will be as many heats as necessary to include all swimmers. Coaches select each swimmer’s events based on times made during the regular season and team scoring possibilities. The top 6 fastest times from all heats of each event advance to Northern Division Finals.
The six fastest times recorded from each event at Prelims advance to compete at the Northern Division Finals swim meet (the 7th and 8th fastest times will be designated as alternates). The Northern Division Finals swim meet and the Southern Division Finals Swim Meet are held simultaneously at different pools. Only one heat is run for each event at each meet. At the completion of these two meets, the swimmers with the top six fastest times in each event (from combined results of both Northern and Southern Finals) will advance to the All-City Swim Meet.
There is one heat of each event at this meet consisting of the top six fastest times from the combined Northern and Southern Finals meet results. The location of this meet alternates each year; a Northern Division team/pool hosts in odd numbered years and a Southern Division team/pool hosts in even numbered years. Each finisher receives a medal.
