This is my 18th year coaching at the Beach and it's always exciting to start another summer of swimming! I've been around a pool deck since the 80's as a swimmer first and then as a coach. I grew up on Mercer Island swimming for the Mercerwood Shore Club - not that different from Sheridan beach and then went on to swim for Bellevue Club until I went on to Central Washington University and swam for 2 years until transferring to Oklahoma Baptist University which ended my swim career since they had no swim team! I was a backstroker in my swim career and topped out making the NAIA National swim meet as a finalist in the 100 and 200 Back along with a 2nd place finish in the 200 Medley relay. I've been a swim coach since 1991 when I started as an assistant coach for Newport Hills Swim and Tennis club. I started working in Shoreline in 2001 and that's when I began to coach at Shorecrest as an assistant, then Shorewood as a head coach and finally in my current high school role at Shorecrest as a head coach. Along with coaching, I teach art at Kellogg Middle School and I'm happy to say I've had lots of Sheridan Beach swimmers come through my class in the past 17 years!
A Pacific northwest native, Nolan is entering his 16th season as a coach and 10th at Sheridan Beach. As an athlete, he competed in three varsity sports, Cross Country, Basketball and Track, but only swam competitively at the club level, as King’s school did not have a swim team. Following high school, he attended the University of Washington, where he studied mathematics. Joining the Dale Turner Orca’s in 2014, first as an Assistant Coach, Nolan eventually took over the role as Head Coach and has since transitioned to coaching with Cascade Swim Club. Nolan also coaches Cross Country, Boys Swim and Track at Edmonds-Woodway High School. In his free time, Nolan trains for triathlons and spends a lot of time running around the Edmonds and Shoreline areas. You can find him open water training in the nearby lakes and kayak fishing in the sound. When he wants to get away, he heads for his cabin on Harstine Island where he fishes, hikes, and barbecues as often as he can.
I grew up right in Lake Forest Park, and graduated from Shorecrest in 2023. Outside of swim, I enjoy learning new instruments, climbing, and am currently studying Law, Society, and Justice at the University of Washington. I’ve coached for the last 2 years, but have swam since I was 8, and have worked as both a lifeguard and swim instructor for the last 3 years. My favorite events are the 50 free and 100 breast.
