A village with a century of history
Something has never changed
Since the village houses are not within formal residential area, postal issue has never been an easy task. These boxes created by the chief of village truly reflect their history.
Why is the village 'vanishing'?
In 2014, the Town Planning Board (TPB) started to propose the changes in the land use of the green belt area at Shek Pai Street.
Since October of 2022, the villagers received the announcement of the proposed plan from the Housing Authority.
5 residential estates are 'dropping' on their own places.
Overview of the Shek Pai Street Public Housing Development plan
Reasons why the villagers are against the plan
Destroy the environment
Over 54 ha of green belt area will be destroyed, bring irreversible damages to the habitat
An Overloaded district
Traffic jam is an everyday issue at the main roads around Shek Lei. The 20,000 potential increase in resident number will definitely worsen the traffic capacity.
Improper procedure
Urban Renewal Authority started "Freezing Survey" on the day of announcement. Some villagers claimed that the officers treated them rudely and entered their houses without proper permission.
Removing community space
The village is offering precious area for recreational leisure use, including gardens for residents around Shek Yam / Shek Lei.
