About Shayla

I’ve been surrounded by music my entire life, learning piano from my mother and playing in band classes taught by my father. With over a decade of experience on both piano and clarinet, I’ve developed a deep passion for both music performance and education. I’ve had the pleasure of performing in a variety of ensembles, from wind ensembles and jazz bands to pit orchestras and marching bands!

Currently, I’m pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Music Education at Utah State University, with an emphasis in both band and elementary music. I currently play clarinet in USU's Wind Orchestra, and I’ve served as principal clarinetist for the A Voice for Good Orchestra (2023) and the Brigham Young University Symphonic Band (2024). I’ve also studied with renowned clarinetists like Dr. Adam Baliff, Rebekah Kjar, and Thiago Ancelmo de Sousa, who have all greatly influenced my musical journey.

I’m passionate about helping students of all ages discover their own love for music and guiding them to reach their full potential as musicians. Through personalized lessons and a supportive, encouraging environment, I aim to inspire the next generation of musicians!

When I'm not teaching or playing music, you can usually find me outdoors, exploring nature and staying active. I enjoy hiking, playing board games, and spending time with my husband. I also love reading and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. My passion for learning and trying new things is something I bring into my teaching, always encouraging my students to explore their own interests and passions beyond music.
