Note: Connection speeds may vary based on modem equipment, client device capability, connection type, building wiring, data traffic on your network, and environmental conditions. "Up to" speeds are based on optimal conditions and designed to be shared across all devices connected on your network by providing enough bandwidth to each device for the best connectivity. About every 6 months I go and check my internet speeds and see that my Internet 300 service by Shaw Communications has a speed test of 65Mbps download speed. Anyone know how to get Shaw to improve their service to ensure near 300 Mbps? I hate playing the "I'm going to Telus" card, but it seems to work when you're on the phone, but not on the Chat interface.

Initially I was actually only getting 40mbps. Then I decided we had some google wifi mesh routers and points, so I set them up in the same room that I need wifi as a second NAT. That improved my speed to 90mbps, and the connection is MUCH smoother.

Since the merger my wifi keeps dropping on my smart TV. It's been great for 8 months not a problem but now the internet drops at least every 10 minutes when streaming. I've called for technical service twice and they haven't been able to help. I even have a new Smart TV that I bought 5 months ago. They recommend I now pay $5 more a month to have it boosted between my modem and TV. No f-ing way. I have one of the highest speed packages and pay $125 per month for just internet. It worked great for 8 months but now I have to pay more? I'll change service before I pay anymore. I can have 20 devices but only have 3 connected. I think this is intentional. Has this happened to anyone else's service?

My router/modem from Shaw and recently my changeover to Telus router/modem has always been set up to handle all my ethernet cable needs and a single ethernet cable goes from the router to a switch that connects to all my ethernet connections within my house including one that goes to my Apple Airport Extreme that handles all my Wifi needs. The WIFI on my shaw/telus modem/router is turned off because my base Airport extreme is setup much like a mesh wifi to other standalone Airport Extreme and Airport Express strewn all around the apartment. This setup has been like this for a long long time.

In addition there are a lot of AC gaming Wifi routers that claims to give you super fast AC wifi speeds and if you have a simple gaming setup where you only have on Gaming PC connected to your Super Wifi AC router, then there is no problem but be careful when you have both an ethernet cable and wifi connected.

When I did call Telus Tech support I got a sales pitch on the reasons why I am not getting gigabit speeds and one of the sales pitch was about WIFI extenders and how Telus can sell you the basic extender for $120 and a two pair extender for $240. ALL THIS HAS Nothing to do with gigabit internet speeds because we all know (in this forum) that WIFI speeds are in the neighborhood of 150mbs.

My concluding statement is just the fact that everyone from day one of the My Clouds has always complained about how slow the My Cloud is when in fact it is usually the slow wifi is to blame. Most of the posts from a decade ago were that they were so fed up with the access speed that they are returning the unit promptly.

Shaw Communications (TSX:SJR.B) is doubling the speeds of its top Internet packages for all new and existing residential customers in western Canada. The speed increases are based on DOCSIS 3.1 network upgrades.

Shaw launched its DOCSIS 3.1-based Internet 300 tier in July. All existing Internet 300 and Internet 150 residential customers' plans will be automatically upgraded in the coming weeks to 600 and 300 Mbps downstream, respectively, at no additional cost. All new Shaw customers will also have access to the higher speeds.

"This isn't a promotion or a one-time offer. This is an unprecedented upgrade to our best Internet plans, giving customers even faster speeds to help them use more powerful in-home technology and lead a more connected life," said Brad Shaw, chief executive officer, Shaw Communications. "We strive to give our customers more value, and we know that having faster download speeds is vital. We're doubling the speeds of our fastest offerings. No tricks, no gimmicks, just more speed. It's that simple."

"The strength of our extensive network paired with industry-leading DOCSIS 3.1 technology means that we can offer our fastest speeds to almost all of our customers today without needing to dig holes in their street, break apart their sidewalk or rip up their lawn. And because we don't charge for data overages, our customers also have the peace of mind in knowing they can use our network as much as they want without penalty," Shaw said.

New and existing customers can expect to see their Internet speeds double in the coming weeks. Alternatively, existing customers can get their speed upgrade sooner by power-cycling their modem beginning Dec. 3.

3 Rivers Telephone Cooperative stands out as a notable internet provider in Fort Shaw, Montana, providing a fiber connection with remarkable speeds up to 1 Gbps. Covering a significant 97% of the Fort Shaw territory, 3 Rivers offers plans starting at $80 per month, perfect for online gamers, streamers, or home businesses in need of high-speed internet.

Away from the urban centers, Fort Shaw residents can choose between two satellite providers: Viasat Internet and HughesNet. Viasat, ensuring reliable internet for 36% of the local area, boasts max download speeds of 10 Mbps and plans that kick off at $49.99 per month. Meanwhile, HughesNet guarantees complete coverage of Fort Shaw, providing speeds peaking at 25 Mbps, at a similar starting price as Viasat. If a wired connection is off the cards, these satellite providers offer steadfast alternatives for continuous and smooth internet service.

A company representative said Shaw customers would be allowed to keep their old plans once the new prices were in effect in the new year. Only new customers would choose from the new internet pricing plans.

Lakshman said the new plans offer better value for money. He noted that the new Internet 60 plan, with download speeds up to 60 mbps, works out to $1.50 per megabit, compared to $1.70 for the old Broadband 50 plan, which offered 50 mbps speeds.

Shaw, like many Canadian telecoms, offers internet, home phone and TV services, though not wireless. Some of these companies have seen declines in TV subscription numbers as viewers turn increasingly towards online content. Shaw and Rogers combined are losing cable subscribers at a rate of 200,000 a year, and growing internet subscriptions are helping to offset those losses.

Shaw is downgrading the internet packages. 90 dollars/month used to get you 100mbps. Come January it will only be 60mbps. 50mbps for $80 will now be 30mbps. 25mbps for $60 will now be 15mbps. 10mbps for $55 will become 5mbps for $50.

Beginning in January 2015, we'll be introducing a new lineup of Internet services for new customers. These packages do not affect current customer subscriptions, but existing customers will be welcome to upgrade when the packages are launched.

These new services will introduce faster download speeds and greater value for customers who have our most popular tiers by providing more value per Mbps (Megabits Per Second) download rate.

We’re pleased to be introducing a new entry-level Internet service, Internet 5, which is well suited to customers who use their Internet for simple web browsing and email.

We will be following the launch of these 4 packages with a fifth tier of service (to be available in the near future) for high volume internet users - Internet 120. Details on this premium tier will be made available in the new year.

As always, all of our Internet packages include access to more than 50,000 access points on Shaw Go WiFi across Western Canada.

Got this in the mail today, seems Shaw is losing it's monopoly in my city. I'm not saying I'm cancelling my service with Shaw, but I'm not ruling it out as a possibility.

Time will tell.

*Edit: Shaw has only let our city have two packages, high speed 10 and high speed 25. We're subscribed to high speed 25 and get speeds as low as 1.5Mbps with 150ms ping because of Shaw's "nodes". With Telus bringing in packages that are cheaper and more reliable than Shaw's current ones and if Shaw raises their prices/lowers their package speeds I don't see Shaw lasting much longer in my city.

7 hours ago there was no 120mbps package. The internal email sent to Shaw reps said the new maximum speed package would be 60mbps. This backlash however has at least caused them to make that small change to their plans. 17dc91bb1f
