Ulta Beauty Campaign Pitch
As an intern at McCann NY, I worked on a group campaign pitch for Ulta Beauty which looked to increase engagement and brand loyalty within the Gen Z demographic. I created the big idea "Who Will UB?" that drove this social and experiential pitch focused on branding Ulta Beauty as a company that values authenticity, self-identity, and freedom of expression. I also developed the strategy, wrote the copy for all 6 mock-ups, and created 4/6 activation ideas. I additionally assisted with the overall design of the campaign, pitch deck, and made 2 of the mock-up graphics (slides 44 & 47). We won "Best Strategy" and received positive feedback on this pitch with emphasis on the admiration of the "Who Will UB?" theme.
In my Capstone Communication class, my client was Hill+Knowlton Strategies and The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) where we worked specifically with their Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI). For this project, I completed the Campaign Strategy, Influencer Marketing Strategy, Social Media Guide, and copy/editing for our deliverables.
USAID "Cash is Best" Digital Ad
CIDI's mission is embodied in its "Cash is Best" slogan which encourages cash donations for international disaster relief efforts. Above is a gif I created that incorporates the slogan into a visual. Along with the campaign created for this client, this graphic was entered into their PSAID contest where it won "Best Digital Image".
USAID / PSAID Contest Infographic & Digital Ad
The above infographic and gif are designs I created to give CIDI an example of how they can appeal to college students when promoting their PSAID graphic design contest. My designs were chosen by our clients over at USAID to be featured on their social media profiles.
The above infographic and gif are from my time interning in the Human Rights Campaign's consumer marketing department. On the left is a Tag Card included that was in PR boxes. On the right is an Instagram story for one of several social posts I created for the days of awareness that HRC celebrates.
As a Copywriting Intern at McCann NY, I assisted on Valero's social impact posts where I wrote the above copy and collaborated with a fellow intern on the visuals.
In October 2020, I was featured in a Mother Jones Magazine article as a product of my online advocacy. A tweet that was intended to reach my fellow HBCU attendees in an effort to raise awareness on the threat to ACA and how our vote could combat it turned into a statement that resonated with thousands with 200k+ likes and 93k+ retweets. When my post caught the attention of News Writer, Abigail Weinberg, she presented me with the opportunity to further discuss my concern for the potential appeal of ACA and other worries as we headed into the 2020 Presidential Election. This article feature was a testament to my eagerness to keep my community informed and to have important conversations, driven by my passion for storytelling and truthtelling.
Writing Samples
I wrote this poem as a submission to the Nike Design Storyteller Contest. The prompt asked us to write a love letter to our Nikes. It was important for me to talk about what makes Nike more than just a semi-affordable clothing brand. I talk about what Nike means to me as it aligns with my beliefs as a brand that stands firm with marginalized groups in our fight for racial equality. I also talk about the stigma around those who wear athletic gear like Nike. Though this relaxed style of clothing has become common, minorities who are widely known for popularizing "streetwear" still experience prejudice when wearing this attire which is highlighted in the poem.
In this speech and visual presentation that I presented in my Advanced Public Speaking course, I give historical context to how the African diaspora utilizes music as a way to ensure that our voices are heard. I emphasize the importance of cultural media studies, the Black Arts Movement, and how music is being used to advocate for social justice today.
The Impact of Oratorical Activism in the Black Diaspora
As a continuation of "Our Music, Our Voice: Using Music to Inspire Change", I dove deeper into the evolution of oratorical activism within the Black Diaspora and the ways in which we have used our words to take up space in this world.
