Devin M. Shanthikumar is the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Professor of Accounting at the University of California Irvine, Paul Merage School of Business. Prof. Shanthikumar was named to Poet & Quant's Best 40 Under 40 Business Professors list in 2019, and served as the head of the Accounting area from 2018-2021.
Prof. Shanthikumar's research broadly examines the effect of incentives, psychology, and social psychology on financial market participants. She also leverages her technology background to study how technology interacts with these aspects of financial markets. Her research examines the behavior of individual investors; the behavior and performance of security analysts; and the impacts that investors have on other market participants, such as firms. Her recent work focuses on unique issues related to the Internet, Social Media, and Artificial Intelligence, as well as the effects of race- and ESG-related issues in Finance and Accounting. Focusing directly to technology and innovation, Prof. Shanthikumar also conducts research examining product development innovation and trademarks.
Prof. Shanthikumar's teaching currently focuses on using data analysis and business systems to drive organizational performance, i.e., Managerial Accounting. She has also developed a unique course on effective academic research presentations, for Ph.D. students. Prof. Shanthikumar has also taught Financial Accounting in the past. Prof. Shanthikumar teaches in a variety of programs, including undergraduate, MBA, and Executive-level programs, and Ph.D., and in multiple modalities, including in-person, fully-online, hybrid, and dual-mode. She has won several teaching awards for both undergraduate and MBA teaching.
