I am Professor and Department Head of Economics at the University of Oregon. I also serve as specialized co-editor for Economic Inquiry and associate editor for Macroeconomic Dynamics.

Much of my research is in "macro-development", the study of contemporary and historical economic development using the toolkit of modern macroeconomics. I am especially interested these days in sociocultural change. My recent works have been on aspirations and its effect on inequality [A, B] and long-term development [C], mortality [D, I], morbidity [E, F] and epidemics [F, G], demographic change [C, E, F], social norms [F], and the evolution of culture [C, H, J].

Published and unpublished work are available at the links above. Course links for my undergraduate Growth and Development, and Open-economy Macro classes, and graduate Core Macro, and Macro-development classes are accessible to enrolled students via Canvas.
