Xicangqiao Jie 西仓桥街 is named after West-of-the-Granary Bridge (Xicangqiao 西仓桥), which used to span Central Creek 中心河, running in the middle of the city. The Great Peace Granary (Taipingcang 太平仓) on the east bank of that creek was Shanghai’s principal rice storage.

All we know about the provenance of this historic residence is that in the 1920s it belonged to Zhou Songjing 周颂京, a comprador for the import and export firm Persian Commercial Co.
