Bushy Park is also famous for being the birthplace of parkrun. Back in 2004, thirteen local runners got together along with a group of volunteers for the very first free, weekly, 5km timed run in our local park.

Fast forward to today, and there are now over 1000 parkrun locations around the world, with events taking place every Saturday morning, organised by teams of local volunteers. They are open to everyone and are safe and easy to take part in.

Bushy parkrun regularly sees over a 1000 parkrunners every weekend, and there are now almost 3 million registered parkrunners worldwide, with everyone combined having run nearly 100 million km since that day in 2004!

SHAEF Shifters regularly get together at Bushy and other parkruns, both to run and volunteer. If you're local, come and join us. If not, see if there's a parkrun near you in the UK, or worldwide.

parkrun encourages people of all abilities to take part, whether you've never run before, or you're an aspiring Olympian, everyone is welcome!
