We invite any scholars, researchers, students, and community practitioners in/from or doing work on Singapore whose work is loosely related to sexuality, gender, and/or queer perspectives (broadly defined—not limited to LGBTQ research) to share ideas, interests, or findings from research or other art/creative/community projects.
We are looking out for three types of presentations:
Presentations of ongoing or completed research, theory, education, community, or artistic projects
Presentations of ideas for future projects (research, theory, education, community, or artistic)
Wildcard presentations on themes, experiences, and projects relating to sexuality, gender, and/or queerness that do not fit strictly into the first two categories
The open call for SQS'24 is now closed.
General audience registration for SQS 2024 will open in mid-August. Please follow our Instagram page for more updates.
Singapore Queer Symposium (SQS) aims to empower queer people and allies in Singapore interested in thinking about sexuality and gender from intellectual or community perspectives to get to know each other and forge affirming networks and future collaborations. We are fascinated about “queerness” in an inclusive and openly defined way. In other words, we are excited about conversations about diverse manifestations of sexuality and gender, and their intersections with identities and relationships. This includes—but is not limited to—research about people who fit into conventional LGBTQIA categories.
While SQS has a primarily academic focus, we hope to be a platform for exciting dialogue between students, artists, community practitioners, researchers and educators (budding and veteran) to present their ideas, research, creative work, and other projects. SQS, inaugurated in 2024, is the spiritual successor to the Junior Scholars Queer Symposium (Singapore) which debuted in 2023.

I am currently an undergraduate studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at NUS. I am interested in queer theory and contemporary art and have been active within the queer youth scene. I hope that SQS can be a platform that brings the community together to empower each other.
