FGBMFI was founded in 1951 by Demos Shakarian (a dairy farmer) who had a vision of reaching men for Jesus. Starting from one chapter in Los Angeles, California in 1951, it grew into a worldwide organization in more than 100 nations spanning all the continents of the World. The Fellowship's history is told in the inspirational book, The Happiest People on Earth, by Demos Shakarian.
