Welcome to my homepage! I am Seunghyun, you can see the pronunciation of my name here. I also go by Sky. Here is a copy of my CV.
I am a 5th year PhD student in the Department of Statistics at Columbia University, co-advised by Profs. Sumit Mukherjee and Yuqi Gu. Before coming to Columbia, I received my undergraduate degree in Statistics and Mathematics from Seoul National University in 2021.
I am interested in statistical inference in parametric models with intractable likelihoods. Below are more details:
Theory: variational approximation of high-dimensional distributions, asymptotic efficiency, identifiability of latent variable models
Methods: scalable estimation of complex latent variable models
Applications: psychometrics (cognitive diagnosis modeling), interpretable unsupervised learning.
Recently, I have also been exploring latent causal discovery and empirical Bayes.
In my spare time, I enjoy table tennis, board games, swimming, and watching baseball. I am a wine lover, and I have the WSET level 3 award in wines. I have a pet dog (she is also named Sky) back in Korea.
