Stoneleigh Elementary School PTA proudly presents an afternoon of Environmental Awareness for our communities

Please join in an afternoon of community engagement in environmental stewardship! On Sunday, April 3rd from 2-4pm the PTA will host a wide variety of environmental organizations and companies, ice cream truck, poster winners and local music! Want to really get involved? Take a minute to pickup trash around the campus as part of the stream/campus cleanup.

The goals of this event

  1. Educate SES community about environmental issues

  2. Provide a fun, safe event and opportunity for community to gather

  3. Give students an opportunity to give back to community through a stream/campus cleanup

Activities leading up to this event

Poster Contest - In February, students created posters highlighting an environmental cause important to them. Students will be given the opportunity to vote on their favorite for each grade. Winners to receive the honor of having their artwork on display, featured in the Towson Times and other prizes.

"Your Yard can help Save the Planet!" The important food chain from tiny caterpillars to butterflies, bees, birds, chipmunks, fox, and other wildlife, all of which depend on native plants and trees for their survival. There will be a tabletop display, photos of butterflies and moths and their caterpillars, and information. Hosted by Baltimore County Master Gardener and certified Maryland Master Naturalist Patty Mochel.

We work with farmers to rescue produce so it doesn't needlessly go to waste.

The Natural History Society of Maryland is a private nonprofit dedicated to conserving Maryland’s natural heritage and educating its citizens on the natural sciences since 1929. Our natural history collections date from the 1800s to the present and include minerals, fossils, flora, fauna, and artifacts from Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region.

Environmental Themed Crafts

SES Green Club

Students show how to make easy environmentally friendly crafts. Students are tallying environmental impact of the event.

White Oak Tree Interactive display with images of a wide variety of animals -- mammals, reptiles, and insects -- that live in or rely on white oak trees. Learn about the diversity of life in an oak tree! Be sure to inspect the white oak tree branches and leaves and learn about this tree's "fun facts".

Students will have an interactive display discussing plastics, microplastics and their impact on our food chain/global environment.

Take action to restore local streams, creeks, and rivers. Join us in participating in Project Clean Stream! Come together and foster a healthier and more sustainable relationship with the Chesapeake. Anytime throughout the event, or on the way to the event, collect any trash you see on the ground. There will be bags for collection and glove for use at the sign "Project Clean Stream" located at the steps leading to the lower parking lot. Please signup/sign in!

This is more than a truck. This is a symbol of resilience and perseverance and hope. We call it the "Change Maker Mobile." Yes we have great ice cream, and yes we deliver great customer service. But the point of our truck is to inspire our community through our hard work.

Bike Swap

On Saturday April 2nd or April 3rd by 1pm, bring bikes for donation to the school bike rack [north west back of building]. There will be 2 areas: working condition and parts. Working condition bikes may be taken home by any visitor at the event {with assumed liability that it is of used condition and needs to be inspected accordingly}. BYKE Collective and Baltimore Bike Works will be on site and can set up times to complete this action [fees may apply]. All parts will be donated along with any unclaimed bikes to BYKE Collective at the end of the Environmental Fair.

Getting there

Please consider being a cyclist or pedestrian to visit this event. If you are driving, please park at the front lot of the school or along the streets. The Kimway lot will be marked off to allow for the food truck and campus cleanup space. No other cars will be able to park here.

The event will be located at the rear of the school from the sport courts to the lower parking area and the kindergarten playground.

Keep an eye out for the SES Green Club table located by the steps to the sport court/food area. Students are collecting data to determine our environmental impact of this event, so please mark how you've arrived with either an "X" (walking/biking) or "O" (vehicular travel).
