Datenschutzerklärung / Privacy Policy
Stand: 04.10.2026
Diese Datenschutzerklärung erklärt einfach und vollständig, was die App Serene Ledger („die App“) mit Daten macht – und vor allem, was sie NICHT macht.
1. Verantwortlicher
Saša Jablanović
E-Mail: sereneledger.app@gmail.com
2. Der Grundsatz: Deine Finanzdaten bleiben bei dir
Die App wurde nach dem Prinzip „Keine Cloud. Kein Abo. Keine Werbung.“ gebaut.
9. Was die App NICHT tut
Keine Übertragung deiner Finanzdaten an irgendwen.

This Privacy Policy explains in a simple and complete way what the Serene Ledger app (“the App”) does with data – and especially what it does not do.
1. Controller
Saša Jablanović
Email: sereneledger.app@gmail.com
2. The principle: your financial data stays with you
The App was built according to the principle "No Cloud. No Subscription. No Advertising."
There is no user account, no registration and no login. Your financial data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to the developer or anyone else. The developer has no access whatsoever to your data.
3. What data the App stores on your device
Transactions (income/expenses), budgets, savings pots and savings goals, loans, crypto and stock portfolios, bank balances, categories, personal notes and goals, profile name/picture (optional), streaks and achievements, as well as your app settings. If you create several accounts, they are kept separate from each other on the same device.
The App stores receipt photos only if you tick "Keep receipt" when booking. They are then also stored in the app storage and can be seen under "My receipts".
All of this is stored in the protected app storage of your Android device, which other apps cannot read. The App also creates automatic backup copies – also only locally on your device (7 daily copies, 12 monthly statements, 3 previous versions). The storage is not additionally encrypted; it is protected by Android's system security and optionally by the App's PIN/biometric lock (which locks the user interface).
4. When the app goes online — and what is transmitted
The app itself connects to the internet only to fetch current prices from these public sources:
• CoinGecko (api.coingecko.com) — crypto prices
• Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.app, ECB data) and ER-API (open.er-api.com, fallback) — exchange rates
• Yahoo Finance (query1/query2.finance.yahoo.com) — stock prices
With the price requests, only the request itself (e.g. which currency or ticker) is transmitted, plus — technically unavoidable — your IP address. No financial data, no identifiers and no advertising IDs are transmitted with them. Individual providers may be located outside the EU (e.g. USA).
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the feature you use) and Art. 6(1)(f) (legitimate interest in current prices).
You can switch off the price requests: Profile → Offline mode. The app keeps working fully and uses the last known rates.
Text recognition (Google ML Kit): When you use the receipt scan, the text recognition provided by Google sends technical usage and diagnostic data to Google – for example device model and Android version, app name and version, a device identifier for diagnostic purposes, image size and format, processing time and error codes. The photo, the recognised text, amounts and merchant names are not transmitted. The text recognition may also occasionally contact Google servers, for example to receive bug fixes. Google uses this data for diagnostics and usage statistics of the text recognition and may process it outside the EU (e.g. USA). This transmission is controlled by Google, not by the app – offline mode does not switch it off. The app therefore asks for your consent before the first scan; without it, no scan starts, and transactions can always be entered by hand. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future: Profile → Receipt scan (Google). Google's terms: developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms
5. Permissions and what they are for
• Camera & photos: for the receipt scan. Text recognition (Google ML Kit) runs entirely on your device — the photo does not leave your device. Google only receives technical diagnostic data (see section 4). It is only kept if you tick "Keep receipt" (see section 3). PDF invoices you select are read on the device in the same way.
• Microphone: only for voice booking. The app uses your Android system's speech recognition. Depending on your device and settings, this system service (usually provided by Google) may process speech in the cloud — that is controlled by your Android system, not by the app. On many devices you can enable on-device recognition in the Android settings.
• Internet: for the price requests and the diagnostic data of the text recognition, both in section 4.
Camera, photos and microphone are optional — denying one only disables that specific feature. Internet and network state are standard Android permissions that are not requested; you can switch off the price requests in offline mode (see section 4).
6. PIN and Biometrics
The optional unlock via fingerprint/face uses the Android biometric interface. Your biometric data remains in the secure area of your device – the App never sees it and cannot read it. A set PIN is only stored locally as a hash value and is never part of a backup or export.
7. Backups, Export and Sharing
Automatic backups remain local on your device. When you yourself output data – as a report (CSV, Excel, PDF), as a backup file (all accounts including receipt photos) or as receipts for your accounting – you decide whether the file is saved on your device or shared via the Android share menu. From that moment on, the terms of the destination you choose apply (e.g. email, messenger, cloud storage).
8. Your rights under the GDPR
You can exercise the rights of access, rectification, erasure and data portability directly in the App – it doesn’t get any faster:
• Copy of all data: Profile → Partner & Device Change → "Share all accounts" (all accounts including receipt photos in one file)
• Deletion: Profile → "Delete All Data". To protect you from a mistake, the App afterwards keeps its local backup copies and the receipt photos they contain on the device. Everything is removed completely when you uninstall the App or clear its storage in the Android settings.
Since the developer does not store any data about you, there is nothing to access, correct or delete on the developer’s side. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (dsb.gv.at).
9. What the App does NOT do
No selling of data. No tracking, no built-in analytics services, no ads (for the diagnostic data of Google's text recognition, see section 4). No profiling and no automated individual decision-making. No transmission of your financial data to anyone.
10. Changes
In the event of material changes to this policy, the updated version will be delivered with the App version in the store; the date at the top shows the current status.

You confirmed a short version of these notes when you first started the app. Here they are in full, and you can re-read them at any time.
What the app is for
Serene Ledger helps you manage your personal finances and keep track of your expenses. The app is a self-organisation tool — not a banking product and not a financial service.
Please note
• All data is stored locally on your device only.
• Exchange and market prices are informational values from public sources and may deviate from actual prices.
• The app does not replace professional financial, investment or tax advice.
• You are responsible for the accuracy of your entries.
• Back up your data regularly (the app helps with automatic backups and export) — otherwise local data can be lost if the device is lost or damaged.
• What happens with data — including the receipt scan with Google's text recognition — is described in full in the privacy policy.
Liability
The app is developed with great care. To the extent permitted by law, liability for slight negligence is excluded. Mandatory statutory claims — in particular under product liability law — remain unaffected.
