The Pearl of Wisdom - Chapter 34

CHAPTER 34

The Treachery of the Swamis

Guru: Son, in this world known as the illusive, tricky, magical city, it will be very difficult for man to live as human in the times to come. It will be a very small number of people who will utter the name of God ! To be aware of the mystery of this world and the Hereafter, the two stations of birth and death, you should conduct yourself with clarity and wisdom. You require the help of a compassionate guru to enable you to dissect it , to clarify and be aware. There was such a virtuous Sheikh in this world one thousand eight hundred and eighty years ago. Henceforth, such a true Sheikh will not exist nor will be available. On the other hand, neither will a true disciple who can make use of such a guru be easily found, even if a million Sheikhs be available.

However, son, there are in this world billions and billions of swamis, dressed in saffron robes, wearing moustaches and growing a beard like me. They persevere themselves for their bellies. They destroy the truth of the world, ruin wisdom, make gods of stone, kill the conscience, consider the decaying body as fruit, sing songs in public, speak sweet languages dance in many ways, run in a reckless manner, seek the almanac, move around wearing masks and hold the world. They sing the praise of the deities, seek to rob the Hindu temples and having robbed them, look for peoples’ houses and for women. These billions and billions of swamis dance with their masks and descend to the levels associated with poisonous intoxicants such as arrack, whisky, ganja and opium. They look for drinking vessels and pour liquor into their mouths. They stand and dance and apply the holy ash beautifully on themselves. They sing what comes to their tongues and run round unmindful of the right or the left. At the opportune time they seek salvation. They will exhaust you running through the toddy taverns ( liquor bars ). They will also sing out the remaining wisdom. Such swamis will assemble and not afford any opportunity for God to exist on earth. They will behave recklessly and unknown to anyone, will try to murder the true man who lives truthfully seeking the mystery of God.

O dear son, these so called swamis indulge in several other ways. They lose their conscience and forget the Lord and the rare magical formulae. Dear son, are these people following their ancestry or are they behaving in this manner because of famine or poverty ? Like the saying goes, because of the famine they employ tricks to worship the world and to collect money or wealth in whatever way for their bellies. They cheatwearing the garb of a swami during the day. There are some swamis like this. They steal in the night. Many beg for alms. Many pretend by undergoing physical penance. Many speak in favour, then oppose. Many wear a beard and the mask of a saint. Many pretentiously wear the mask of a recluse with unkempt locks of hair. Many cheat. Many make money through gambling. Many live comfortably in the temples. Many live on the income of the temples.

Dear son, they help themselves in whatever way their bodies can be nourished and develop their bodies. They provide a god as soon as an opportunity arises. They create a temple in the backyard, a god at the foot of a tree, a god in the street, a god next door, a god in the sea, a god on the hill top and a god at the cemetery. No sooner an opportunity arises to feed their bodies, they provide a god and keep a till to collect money in order to help themselves. This is happening now. They exist to look after their bellies. O son, they make a god in an instant, if they so desire. This is not a frivolous matter. No sooner a quarrel arises between them and the inhabitants next door or opposite, they produce a god. Such a god is not the Primal Lord !

The treachery committed by these men will earn for them thirty-five million births. Truth is concealed by their action and falsity is developed in this world. Many evil-minded swamis are on the increase in the world today. A large of people get attached to them. The present world affords much importance to these so-called swamis. But son, the true swami is knocked and chased away.
