In 2026, she was awarded a research grant for her project MASC. SG - Masculinities and Systems of Care in St. Gallen, which seeks to examine how young men in the east of Switzerland understand masculinities and means by which caring masculinities could be better supported in the community.
During her PhD, Serena was one of 15 Early Stage Researchers working on the HORIZON 2020 research and innovation project G-Versity, funded by the EU Commission. Her PhD project, Challenging manhood: when men engage in male-atypical professions, focused on perceptions of men working in childcare and men's interest and engagement in women-dominated, care-oriented careers.
