THE DOWNFALL OF UKRAINE: Ukraine was founded on August 24th, 1991, during the fall of the Soviet Union. Ukraine wanted to be a peaceful country On February 24th, 2022. Russia invaded Ukraine from the east but later opened 3 fronts from the north and south of the country. Russia claimed that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a Nazi despite him being Jewish, and that Ukraine needed to be Demilitarized. On the first day of the war, Russia invaded from the east, and south. Russia pushed back the Ukrainians in the south to the Dnipro River. In the east Russia Pushed the Ukrainians out of Luhansk. Day 2. Russia started to invade from the north and was starting the push to Kiev. Ukraine has so far lost almost 27% of its territory. Russia has bombed civilian targets such as power plants, Dams, and apartment blocks. An estimated 5.9 million people have been displaced so far. So far 9,287 Civilians have been killed during the fighting. Russia has so far lost 120,000 personnel during the fighting. Russia has also lost over 10,000 military vehicles. On the other hand, Ukraine has so far lost around 70,000 personnel, and has lost around 10,000 military vehicles. I asked my history teacher Mrs. Adkins about her opinion on the Russian invasion, and she said, “I hate that it’s happening, and I hope that both countries can compromise and put an end to this war Because a lot of people are dying.”
THE RISE OF UKRAINE: In late April of 2022, Russia launched an attack invasion on the capital of Ukraine Kyiv. The Russian forces after failing to take Kyiv the capital of Ukraine Because of the Ukrainian resistance located in the capital of Ukraine They retreated to Belarus. Asking my history teacher Mrs. Remington how she felt about Ukraine protecting their capital and making the Russian army retreat to Belarus she responded with ”I don’t think that the Ukraine war is great, and that Russia should have never invaded in the first place.“ The Ukrainian forces took this chance to push forward against the Russian forces and began to start recapturing their territory in the north-east as well as south because of their counterattack. On The, 25th of February a Russian air base known as the Millerovo air base was attacked by Ukrainian military forces with OTR-21 Tochka missiles, according to the Ukrainian officials, several of the destroyed Russian air force planes had started a fire on the 28th of February. The Russian forces sent in exploding drones to the Ukrainian lands and as a result the Ukrainian forces returned in fire with launching a weekend attack killing dozens of Russian troops. The Russian forces in result of that sent in its largest drone barrage on Ukraine’s capital and Ukraine has shot down nearly all of them. The Ukrainian force fires a missile at the Crimea bridge, this was a huge accomplishment for Ukraine because this bridge was Russia’s main supply route for food and supplies. Ukraine has also gained much foreign land help as from the U.S and EU and other country’s all together 113 billion in aid, this is very important because this is what helped Ukraine make a comeback with all the foreign aid and tanks and ships, they have received. I asked my classmate Maci Ackroyd and “she said peace no war and that they shouldn’t have invaded such a smaller country such as Ukraine and that she under stood its more land but its just such an unfair advantage and she did not agree with the war.”
