Sensei 2024

International Workshop on Safety-Security Interaction

@CSF 2024, July 8, Enschede

Introduction

Two important criteria in designing high-tech systems are safety (the absence of risk of harm due to technological malfunctioning) and security (the ability to withstand attacks by malicious parties). Safety and security are heavily intertwined, and measures to improve one may have a positive or negative effect on the other. For instance, passwords can secure patients' medical data, but are a hindrance during emergencies. On the other hand, cyberattacks can purposely cause a system to fail, and improving cybersecurity leads to increased safety. To ensure safety and security, it is vital to understand how safety and security interact.

The aim of SENSEI is to further our understanding of safety-security interaction. For example, two important topics are the co-engineering of safety and security, and integrated safety and security risk assessment. To foster the exchange of concepts, experiences, research ideas, and novel results, we bring together a wide range of researchers in safety and security, from theoretical to practical research. There will be room to present and publish the latest findings in the field, but also for discussion to share experiences and novel ideas.

This is the third edition of SENSEI, the first was organized at SAFECOMP 2022 and the second at SAFECOMP 2023
