Sense2Quit — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 1, 2026
Sense2Quit is a research app from the ESC Lab at the University at Buffalo. It helps
you understand smoking behavior using a paired Wear OS smartwatch.
Information we collect (only while you use the app, with your permission):
• Email address — to create and sign in to your account (AWS Cognito).
• Motion/sensor data — accelerometer & gyroscope from your watch, to detect smoking gestures.
• Smoking-event data — timestamps/counts of detected or logged events.
• Diagnostics — app analytics and crash reports (Google Firebase).
We do NOT collect location, contacts, photos, or audio.
How we use it: to provide smoking-gesture detection and tracking, to support the ESC Lab's
smoking-cessation research, and to maintain and improve the app.
Storage & sharing: Data is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections and stored using Amazon
Web Services; diagnostics are processed by Google Firebase. We do not sell your data or use
it for advertising. Study data is retained for the duration of the research and then deleted
or de-identified.
Your choices: Request access to or deletion of your data by emailing esclab.ub@gmail.com.
You can stop collection anytime by turning off detection or uninstalling the app.
Children: Not directed to children under 13.
Account & Data Deletion
