If you want a distraction-free, closed-back experience for focused remote work with balanced bass and natural imaging, choose Sennheiser HD 620S; if you need the widest possible soundstage, extreme detail resolution, and a planar magnetic signature for critical listening at home, choose FiiO FT1.
• Sennheiser HD 620S: The biggest strength is its unique ability to offer an open-like spaciousness within a sealed chassis, providing excellent isolation for noisy environments while maintaining audiophile-grade detail. The trade-off is that it requires a decent amplifier to drive its 150-ohm impedance, which might be limiting for some portable setups. This pick is for the professional who needs to block out office chatter but refuses to compromise on sound quality.
• FiiO FT1: The biggest strength lies in its massive 95x86mm planar magnetic drivers and ultra-thin diaphragm, delivering a lateral soundstage and frequency response up to 40kHz that feels almost limitless. The trade-off is the open-back design, which offers zero noise isolation and leaks sound outward, making it unsuitable for shared spaces or public transport. This pick is for the dedicated listener who wants the absolute best resolution and doesn't mind the lack of isolation.
The Sennheiser HD 620S occupies a very specific niche that few other headphones manage to hit. It is designed for people who crave the airy, detailed presentation usually reserved for open-back models but live in environments where privacy and isolation are non-negotiable. Whether you are working from a busy coffee shop, a bustling home office, or a household with children, the closed-back enclosure creates a physical barrier against external noise. You won't hear your neighbors mowing the lawn, and they won't hear your music leaking out. This makes it arguably one of the best wireless earbuds alternatives for remote work, specifically when you need over-ear comfort and acoustic sealing rather than true wireless convenience.
The engineering behind this isolation is fascinating. Sennheiser has integrated an open baffle system inside the closed housing. This means the sound waves have a path to expand naturally, preventing the "boxy" or congested sound that plagues many standard closed-back headphones. The angled dynamic transducers, measuring 42mm with 38mm diaphragms, are positioned to mimic speaker setups. This results in precise stereo imaging where instruments feel like they are coming from specific points in space rather than just inside your head. For someone doing deep-focus tasks like coding, writing, or video editing, this spatial awareness reduces fatigue and keeps the brain engaged without feeling trapped in a sonic bubble.

Comfort is another pillar of the HD 620S, especially for long sessions. The chassis is lightweight at 400 grams, which is significant for a pair of full-size over-ear headphones. The earpads are made of soft artificial leather, and the internal venting helps regulate heat, ensuring your ears don't get sweaty during those marathon workdays. The steel-reinforced headband slider adds durability, suggesting this isn't a disposable gadget but a piece of equipment meant to last through years of daily use. If you are looking for a spatial audio wireless headset for remote work that doesn't rely on batteries and digital processing, the wired nature of the HD 620S actually becomes a feature here—zero latency, zero charging anxiety, and pure analog fidelity. However, the 150-ohm impedance is a hurdle. While not impossible to drive, it demands more power than typical consumer DACs or phone outputs can provide easily. You will likely need a desktop amplifier or a dedicated USB DAC to unlock its full potential, which fits perfectly into a permanent home desk setup but less so for mobile workflows.
The FiiO FT1 represents a different philosophy entirely. It is built for the purist who prioritizes technical performance above all else, particularly soundstage width and transient speed. This headphone is not about blocking out the world; it is about dissolving the boundaries between the listener and the recording. With its massive 95x86mm flat unit drivers, the FT1 delivers a lateral soundstage that is rarely seen in this class. The sheer size of the driver allows for a level of air movement that smaller dynamic drivers simply cannot achieve, creating a sense of vastness where every instrument has its own room to breathe. If you are an audiophile who listens to complex orchestral pieces or intricate jazz recordings, the ability to resolve individual strings and brass sections without them bleeding into one another is transformative.
At the heart of this performance is the 1-micron ultra-thin diaphragm. In the microscopic world of acoustics, reducing thickness from 2 microns to 1 micron makes a profound difference in how quickly the diaphragm can start and stop vibrating. This high-speed response translates to incredible clarity and definition across the entire frequency spectrum, extending up to 40kHz. The sapphire and aluminum dual-coating patent technology further refines this by enhancing high-frequency resolution while improving conductivity. The result is a sound that feels incredibly detailed, almost too detailed for casual listening. You will hear breath sounds, finger slides on guitar strings, and the subtle reverb of the recording studio itself. For someone seeking the best deep bass on ear headphones for remote work who also happens to produce music or mix audio, the low distortion and uniform magnetic field design ensure that the foundation of the track remains tight and controlled, even as the highs sparkle.
However, the open-back design dictates exactly where and how you can use this product. Because there is no seal around the ears, sound leaks out freely, and outside noise comes in unimpeded. You cannot wear these on a train, in a library, or in a home with family members nearby without disturbing others or being disturbed yourself. They are strictly a stationary solution. The 20-ohm impedance is much lower than the Sennheiser, meaning they are easier to drive and will sound fine plugged directly into a computer or a modest DAC/amp combo. But the lack of isolation is the dealbreaker for many remote workers. If your primary goal is to tune out the dishwasher or a crying baby, the FT1 will fail you. It is a tool for the dedicated listening room or the quiet home office where silence is guaranteed. The build uses plastic, silicone, and fabric, which feels durable but lighter and less substantial than the metal-reinforced Sennheiser. It is a premium instrument for a quiet environment, not a rugged companion for the modern, chaotic workplace.

After weighing the technical specifications and real-world applications, I would buy the Sennheiser HD 620S. While the FiiO FT1 is undeniably a marvel of acoustic engineering with a wider soundstage and superior resolution, its open-back nature limits its utility significantly. For the average user, especially one asking for the best wireless earbuds for remote work or a reliable spatial audio wireless headset for remote work, the inability to isolate noise is a fatal flaw. The Sennheiser bridges the gap between the comfort and isolation of a standard work headphone and the sonic excellence of an audiophile reference model. It allows me to enjoy a distraction-free streaming experience without compromising on airy, detailed sound, making it the more versatile and practical choice for a modern lifestyle. I recommend the Sennheiser HD 620S for anyone who values focus and versatility alongside high-fidelity audio.
Yes, the closed-back design provides effective sound isolation, minimizing distractions and keeping your voice private during work calls, unlike the open FiiO model which leaks sound.
No, the FiiO FT1 has a low impedance of 20 ohms, so it is easier to drive and will perform well with standard desktop DACs or computer outputs without needing a high-power amp.
