Semperit advances the use of conveyor belt technology.
A conveyor belt is a continuous loop of material that moves under tension and transfers material along the loop as it circulates. The main application of conveyors is in manufacturing, where materials are transferred to and fro. The belts usually rotate on bearings or rollers. Conveyor belts are also found in some power plants, mines, and dust collection systems. Still, today most large-scale applications use a suction hopper to collect material onto the moving belt.
Semperit is a global company that develops and produces rubber products. Among their many innovations, one, in particular, has revolutionized the industry; Sempertrans conveyor belt technology.
Semperit’s approach to factory automation is unique in that it focuses on the entire production line. This way, with one investment, you can improve the efficiency of your manufacturing process for all stages of production and not just an individual part of it. This type of investment is typically reserved for higher volume or highly specialized sectors - but not anymore!
The Sempertrans conveyor belt works by guiding the outermost roll around to a stop position and automatically driving an inner roll into the production line. This solution is designed for applications that require uninterrupted operation when switching roles. It is simple and efficient thanks to its use of just one stop position and because there are no operational pauses during this process. Today's system includes two variants: one with an external guide roller that transports the outermost roll and one without such a device.
When a roll has finished production and is ready to be changed, it enters a stop position where an elaborate guide structure guides it. This structure is constructed of two moving guide rails shown by a drive and brake system. A second guide rail is located in front of the roll itself; this rail moves as required to ensure that the roll remains in position when switched between rolls.
The Sempertrans conveyor belt is the central component of this automation system. This component and the whole system make it possible to move the material while producing without any pauses or changes in speed. This helps reduce production time, product quality, and waste, all essential in a complete manufacturing process.
Almost every industry requires conveyors, from food manufacturing plants to steel mills and cement factories. Sempertrans conveyor belt has proven its worth in several major sectors. Its use in the automotive and aerospace industries has been established, as well as its other services in the chemical, manufacturing and building industries.
In the automotive industry this technology is used extensively in the automotive industry to produce and move new car seats through production. Here, the conveyor belt is substituted by a cardboard belt that guides the component into the right place. This is done to eliminate unnecessary movement and possible damage. The belt is then strapped down to ensure that it does not move again until it reaches its final destination, saving time, improving quality and increasing capacity for production lines where these principles are critical.
In the aerospace industry, Sempertrans conveyor belts are an essential part of large assembly lines for aircraft. After construction and testing of factors, these aircraft are assembled from up to 32 individual components, all of which need to be transported easily and swiftly through production.
The use of conveyor belt technology means that the entire changeover process can be monitored and coordinated at all times. This is done by measuring the length of the roll produced in thousandths of a meter, which enables a precise calculation of when the roll will run out. To ensure that production continues without interruption, an automatic system moves a new roll into the production line.
