SELF is a bilingual literacy program developed at Indiana State University. The SELF program was created by Drs. Scott Sterling and Cody Hanson from the Language, Literatures, and Linguistics department at ISU in 2019. The goal of this program is to offer free online content to anyone wanting to learn English or Spanish as a second language. All of the books used in this program were originally written and drawn by Language Studies students at Indiana State University. Each year, students from Dr. Hanson’s Spanish courses create their own children’s books in Spanish. The SELF team members collaborate with native Spanish speakers to improve the Spanish and to make the text as natural as possible. Additionally, local artists update the art to improve the professional look of each text. Our hope at SELF is to offer free and valuable resources to anyone learning and/or teaching a second language. All works are secured with a Creative Common license, please feel free to change and remix the work so that it works best for you and your teaching context.
