With the intention of containing this collection of typological models, I worked with a partner to produce an "atypical" shelf that reflects the language of the museum. Its metal facade comes through as a gridded skin that lines the shelf. Additionally, to keep certain models out of site, the shelf opens and closes.
Cylinders and tubes became the key motifs in this project. Taking the idea of storage a step further and situating the project in Columbus, Indiana, I designed a space diorama that meshes both exhibition and archival spaces. Tubes are used for circulatory purposes as well as for the storage of architectural drawings.
Taking the diorama and reimagining it as a fraction of a greater space, I expanded the geometries and created new spaces. The project then became an amalgamation or juncture of spaces through horizontal and diagonal tubes. The majority of the program falls into three major categories: archive, library, and exhibition. The exchange of knowledge is at the heart of this project.
