Crowded Yet Nastolgic.
As a final assignment in my graphics design course, I was tasked with choosing a theoretical client and creating a poster for them. I chose The New Yorker magazine and decided to center the project around Rockefeller Center in New York City. Looking at past magazine covers and taking inspiration from other artists, I created this cover titled Crowded Yet Nastolgic.
Growing up in New York City, I have many memories of venturing to Rockefeller Center during the holiday season. I would always complain about how crowded it is, yet I have come to appreciate it.
My goal was to design a playful cover, and one of the first things that came to mind was confetti. I conveyed this through dots and pops of color.
Project Brief
I was assigned a client who requested a new logo for her vacation rental in Wellfleet, a small town on Cape Cod. She had named the house Many Moons after the children’s book written by James Thurber. After reading it and taking a look at my client's reference images, I created this logo.
Because the rental is situated near the ocean, it felt right to embed that aspect in the final design. Each of the waves is meant to replicate the form of a moon, hence the plurality of the title. The typeface is soft and playful like the characters in the book.
