Digital Sketching : Cylindrical Forms

To sketch the cylindrical forms digitally, i first had to convert the sheet of paper into a digital photo to trace the shapes out from. This was then uploaded into procreate to use as reference and tracing.

When tracing it was easier to identify the cylindrical shapes of the forms made in the sheet of paper first with blue pencil, so it will only need tracing to be able to fine line these shapes.

Then, i used a center line to identify the center of the shape, and fine lined the outer lines with a thicker pen, and the inner lines with a thinner pen as usual.

Together with the Blue pencil the overall sketch looked something like this :
(background darkened to prepare for glass texture later on)

After the base sketch (including the fine line) , i started to use highlights in order to create a glass texture for the cylindrical forms. The glass texture makes the shapes look more 3D, and will therefore look more realistic.

After finishing with the glass textures, i started to add shadows to contribute to the overall realistic feel of the shapes. The shadows help to add more texture as well as depth to the shapes which makes the shapes look more 3D.
