NASA SEES Program

Air Quality Inititiative (AQI) Group

Investigating Air Quality using GLOBE Protocols and Aerosols Data.

Mission of the SEES - AQI Group

The purpose of this group is to enable participants to do the following: 1. Learn about the science of Air Quality and Aerosols; 2. Investigate their local environments by collecting data using standardized sampling protocols from the GLOBE Program (www.globe.gov); 3. Map and analyze their data in ArcGIS Online (www.arcgis.com); and 4. Utilize the Purple Air website (www.purpleair.com) to extract Aerosols data and analyze it within the Igor software platform (www.wavemetrics.com). The intent is to provide users a set of tools with which to conduct research projects into the science of Air Quality.

Introduction to Air Quality and Aerosols and the current state of research on this scientific topic. Gain knowledge to structure research questions.

Complete training and learn to use proper protocols to collect data from your local environment. Utilize the GLOBE Visualization System and PurpleAir to view your data.

Learn to utilize the downloadable software called Igor to analyze aerosols data. Also learn how to utilize ArcGIS Online to view data in spatial map format.

Complete a research project using the knowledge and skills you've learned.
