When you use our mobile application, Second Memory (the "App"), you trust us with your personal information. We take your privacy very seriously. In this privacy notice, we describe our privacy policy. We seek to explain to you in the clearest way possible what information is collected, how it is used, and what rights you have in relation to it.
The short version: Second Memory is an offline-first app. Your audio recordings, journals, and bookmarks never leave your device. We do not have servers, and we do not collect, store, or sell your personal data.
Information processed locally on your device:
Microphone Data: The App requests access to your device's microphone strictly for the purpose of recording your voice journals and memories. This audio data is processed and stored locally on your device. We do not have access to your microphone data, and it is never transmitted to any external servers.
Biometric Data: If you choose to use the "Secure Vault" feature, the App integrates with your device's native biometric authentication (fingerprint or face unlock). We do not collect, store, or have access to your biometric data. Authentication is handled entirely by your device’s operating system.
App Data (Journals and Bookmarks): All text, bookmarks, metadata, and audio files you create within the App are stored locally in your device's internal storage (such as a local SQLite or Room database).
Information collected automatically: We do not use any third-party analytics trackers, crash reporters, or advertising networks that collect your data.
Because all data is stored locally on your device, we do not use, process, or analyze your information. Your data exists solely to provide you with the functionality of the App on your personal device.
No. We do not have access to your data, which means we cannot share, sell, or rent your data to any third parties. Your journals and audio recordings are entirely private and remain on your device.
No. The App does not use cookies, web beacons, or any other tracking technologies. We do not serve advertisements within the App.
Your data is kept for as long as you keep the App installed on your device. If you uninstall the App, or clear the App's data via your device settings, your local database and audio files will be permanently deleted by the operating system. Because we do not have cloud backups, we cannot recover your data once it is deleted from your device.
Your data is protected by the standard security protocols of your device's operating system (Android). For added security, we provide an in-app "Secure Vault" feature that utilizes your device's native biometric and PIN security to restrict access to sensitive memories.
We may update this privacy notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated "Effective Date" at the top of this document. If we make material changes to this privacy notice, we may notify you by prominently posting a notice of such changes within the App. We encourage you to review this privacy notice frequently to be informed of how we are protecting your information.
