SOLAR ENERGY CENTER

Established in 1998, under AICTE Scheme
Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Calicut , Kerala - 673 601, India.

History

Solar Energy Center (SEC) of Regional Engineering College (REC), Kozhikode, was established in July 1998 under the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) scheme. In the year 2004, the REC was reinstated as the 'National Institute of Technology Calicut' (NITC), and the SEC begins to function as an independent laboratory with a prime research focus on 'Renewable Energy,' 'Thermal Science,' 'Heat Transfer,' and 'Fluid Mechanics.' Over the years, SEC has become well-suited to work on the experimental, analytical, numerical, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) frontiers.
Prof. Simon Jayaraj, Professor (HAG) & Former Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITC, was the founder of SEC in 1998. The SEC has reached new heights because of Prof. Jayaraj's hard work, wisdom, and vision to help the world with new and sustainable ideas. SEC has been one of the pioneer laboratories in producing quantitative and qualitative research outcomes, organizing GIAN initiatives, Faculty development programs (FDP), and Workshops/Seminars, and promoting outreach activities leading to worthwhile student exchanges. Under the Department of Mechanical Engineering, after 2004, SEC was funded by internal (regular plan funds) and external collaborations (Government of India, funding agencies, industrial) for its developmental activities (such as infrastructure and maintenance) in-line with the vision and mission of the center. Currently, Dr. M. Srinivas (Asso. Prof.), Dr. Sujith Kumar C. S. (Asst. Prof), and Dr. Rohinikumar B. (Asst. professor) serve as the "in-charge" of the center.

VISION

To develop cutting-edge technology and do groundbreaking research in solar energy, promote green energy and sustainable engineering for future generations.

MISSION
