Sven Dummer, who grew up in Zwolle, the Netherlands, obtained his Bachelor and Master degree in Applied Mathematics Cum Laude at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. During his Master Thesis at the Mathematics of Imaging and AI (MIA) group, Sven investigated solving stochastic mean field games using neural stochastic differential equations. In general, his research interest lie in thoroughly grasping mathematical theory and applying this thorough knowledge in real-life applications. More precisely, he likes topics like Functional Analysis, Optimal Transport, Differential Geometry, and Group theory and likes to apply these in combination with state-of-the art techniques like Deep Learning.
Currently, Sven is working on his PhD project which revolves around applying mathematical theory in combination with Deep Learning for obtaining more knowledge about microscopic plant cells. More precisely, Sven is trying to develop mathematically inspired Deep Learning based dimensionality reduction techniques for microscopy images, which in turn can be used to obtain more knowledge about, for instance, the effect of external stress on microscopic plant cells.
