My short original - natural - version of The Butter ?. We took a soup pan with 20 to 40 liter of water. Start boiling the water. High. Trow in cannabis. Whole plant or only buds. 100 to 500 gram. Trow in 250, or 500 to 1000 gram diary butter. Let it cook for 3 to 5 hours. STRONG SMELL !. Stir from time to time. Turn of heat and let cool. The green and strong thc - butter will float on top.
Simplest way I know and even once did. With what remains of outside plants, called a purple haze. Supplies : you need are a large cooking pot, 10 to 20 liters. Of course, plant material and residues, leaves, stem and some buds. Packet of Dairy butter, 250 gram, or two. How much depends on what you want, how strong the butter will be. Just try potent weed 500 grams or, up to 5 kilograms leaf, stem and weed. Boil the water. Put the green stuff in there, and let it simmer, boil as slow as possible. Occasionally add a little water, or cannabis / plant material, that will not hurt. It should be cooking on a low fire, for approximately 3 to 5 hour. In the last hour, I throw the butter in there.
The odor was penetrating, pungent, and stayed in the house for days. You take the pan off the heat, allow to cool down complete. The fatty butter will float on top. My first experience wass 10 to 20 times too strong, partly by highly potent plant material with with psychedelic properties of PurpleHaze weed.
Cannabis Butter Recipe – The Best and Safest Way
This method provides little to no waste, maximizes control and minimizes danger

Now that you are a medical patient, it is important to find what consumption method works best for you. Many patients prefer edibles or oral consumption rather than the potentially harsh smoke created by heating medical marijuana material. Listed below is a very clean, efficient and effective butter recipe. Please be aware cooking with medical cannabis requires a little higher amount of material per dose: One gram of cannabis per tablespoon (Tbsp) is an average dose. - If new to cannabis, use 8 Tbsp per 7 grams of cannabis instead of 1:1 Tbsp per gram ratio.
Ingredients:
- Ground material – 21 grams
- 8 Tbsp butter
- 8 Grams of ground or powdered medical grade marijuana
- Cheese cloth or strainer
- Narrow container large enough to hold at least 1/3 of the volume of water used
Authors note: I use 7 or 8 cups + of water: “Better to use too much rather than not enough”, as my grandma always told us. The water plays 2 roles in this recipe; acting as a buffer to prevent any lose of medicine due to high heat and helping the butter to separate while absorbing all the impurities. If done right, the finished product will be of the highest quality
Step one Prepare your cannabis using a grinder or breaking into small pieces by hand, and place in a large cooking bow.
Step two Fill your cooking pot with 8 cups of water and place on the stove over a medium heat setting.
Step three Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer. Add your choice of butter along with medical cannabis/strain and simmer for 30 minutes to several hours. 30 minutes is the minimum time for simmering but better results are achieved with patience and hours of simmering to reduce the liquid and extract more of the plant’s medicinal properties. Do not let the water boil out, keeping the water level to at least one third of its original amount. Add more water if needed, it will not have a negative effect. Water acts to keep the cannabinoids from evaporating when the butter touches the pot.
Step four As the water boils down you’ll start to see the butter is taking on a greenish hue. Have patience. Let the liquid boil down, add some more if you need to, as long as water remains between the canna-butter and pot you are doing fine. When the mixture is sure to fit in the narrow container you have chosen, let the water cool for about 30 minutes or to a temperature that won’t burn you. Strain into your narrow container. Note: The boiling water keeps everything moving & allows the THC and other cannabinoids be to absorbed into the butter fat without jeopardizing losing any to excess heat of the surrounding metal pot. The water acts as a buffer zone keeping the temperature below the vapor point of cannabinoids but high enough to activate them. You lose medical properties when you cook over 330 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step five Using a strainer or cheese cloth, slowly and steadily pour the mixture through the cloth or strainer into the narrow container. You can also line a strainer with cheese cloth for this step. This recipe turned out to be a personal favorite use for my plastic “take out” wonton soup containers. Be very careful when pouring hot liquids, we are not responsible for your actions
Step six After pouring the water through the cheese cloth, squeeze out the rest of the material from the cheese cloth. Pour some warm water through the used or “spent” material. It will release more medicinal butter. Repeat this process one or two times until little to no butter is left in separated starting material/strain. What you do with the material is up to you. Some people enjoy mixing it with warm milk and drinking it.
Step seven Leave the container now with the water and the butter in the refrigerator or any slightly below room temperature location for several hours. The impurities will fall to the bottom & the butter will always float to the top. Next morning, the medical oils will be waiting within a plate of solid butter on the top. Take a butter knife and cut the disc out and put on a plate for future use. Notice the color of the water ?. This butter can be used for any recipe or even consumed as is. For dose range one table spoon of butter will equal 1 gram of cannabis. Cannabis is slightly less active when orally consumed but maintains longer lasting effects. Enjoy courtesy of DrMarijuanaNJ.com. The advantages to cannabis butter are obvious. Wake, make and bake your own recipes. Having the same old brownies can get boring, “I really enjoy some banana bread or carrot cake. Don’t forget chocolates are great for the holidays!” Said Brian Gillis, an educated card holder and acting adviser to several programs we’ve been asked not to disclose.
Cooking canna-butter with indirect heat.
It seems as though there is quite a bit of confusion surrounding the idea of cooking canna-butter with indirect heat. Here is a little tutorial. When cooking your canna-butter its essential to use low heat for a extended period of time. THC has the potential to burn away quite easily hence where the idea of indirect heat came along. The term indirect indicates that we add a medium between our pan containing the THC butter mixture and our heat source. This method utilizes a boiling pot of water to heat the pan containing the canna-butter. The picture displays how the process should look. Its quite simple; boil water, put sauce pan on top and stir. The indirect heat method provides a barrier protecting THC from overheating. Doing the job correct usually takes an extended period of time; however, a more potent effective product is well worth the wait!This came from Captain Spacecake ;
This is the long, messy, tedious, but still effective way to make weed butter.
This is very similar to the process I invented myself when I first came to Holland, and started making spacecake, cookies and brownies. I don't think it's necessary to boil the weed in the water for a full half-hour, or to boil the water after you've added the butter for a full half-hour, either. But it doesn't hurt, especially if low-potency bud is all you've got to work with. ( That's never been the case over here, of course ) It's much easier to make butter with hash, if you can get your hands on any where you are. Just crumble it up, dissolve it in the butter slowly over lowest heat, and you're ready to bake. You can strain the butter if you want to, but it's not really necessary. The all-time easiest way is to buy some ice-o-lator hash, which presently isn't much of a problem here in Nederland (unless you're a foreigner visiting the southern provinces where foreigners, and even Dutch citizens who live abroad are now barred from the coffeeshops). Just dissolve the ice-o-lator slowly in the butter over lowest heat, and that's it. You can strain the butter if you wish in order to remove any remaining plant material. Ice-o-lator can be pretty expensive, especially if it's the highest quality first run. You're better off smoking something that fine. Generally, the darker in color it is, the cheaper it is, the more plant material it contains, and the higher in CBD it is. This makes anything you bake with lower quality ice-o-lator better suited for medicinal use, especially if it's for pain control. It's the only remedy I've ever tried, legal as well as illegal, that will avert one of the terrible, debilitating migraine headaches I've suffered from since childhood.
P.S. Years ago, I used to write a monthly column for the British mag "Weed World" under the pseudonym Captain Spacecake.
