Programme Overview

As building projects are becoming complex, Building Information Modelling (BIM) has become a crucial tool to help building professionals improve their effectiveness & efficiency.

As an integrated design, documentation and construction tool, the strategic implementation of BIM in building projects enhances communication & multi-disciplinary collaboration among the various project stakeholders. This significantly improves the design, construction & operation processes with productivity gains & returns.

Certificate in
BIM DESIGN &
COORDINATION

This certificate enables learners to be proficient in BIM processes and develop strategic skills for BIM implementation, design documentation and coordination. Learners will be taught to perform qualitative design checks with BIM applications, and perform design analysis on energy usage and simple structures


COURSE CONTENT:

BIM Standards and Implementation Strategies

This course covers the various BIM standards locally and internationally, as well as how to implement and execute a BIM project in accordance to Singapore BIM standards. It also makes reference to the legal aspects of contracts using BIM.

BIM for Design Coordination & Documentation

This course covers the project documentation and e-submission procedures. Effective design coordination can help to reduce costs, delays and disruption that can be caused by problems on site and the need for remedial or abortive works and redesign. Learners will understand how to collaborate, coordinate and integrate with the various disciplines. Visualisation and spatial coordination will also be covered.

BIM for Design Analysis

The use of BIM for building design performance through simulation and analyses can ensure the effective use of resources for a more sustainable, environmentally-responsive built environment. BIM Analysis tools are BIM software to analyse and predict model behavior and are used to validate model compliance with standards/codes. This course covers the strategies, tools and methodology for design buildability, energy and structure using BIM models to perform simulation and analysis.

Project

Learners are to work on a project using BIM in the areas of BIM design coordination or analysis.

This certificate equips learners to apply BIM in the construction and operation of building projects. It focuses on using BIM for the coordination, scheduling, quantification and on-time delivery of building projects. It also covers construction workflows, progress reviews, as-built models, as well as the application of BIM for Digital Asset Delivery to facilitate building operation downstream.


COURSE CONTENT:

BIM for Construction Planning and Coordination

BIM can evaluate a project’s constructability before it’s built, improve cost reliability, visualize construction processes through 4D simulation and clash detection, increase coordination between stakeholders throughout the design and construction process, and better predict, manage and communicate project outcomes.

BIM models support construction techniques, construction planning, cost and quantity feedback, fabrication, and facilities management.

BIM for Digital Asset Delivery

This course introduces the requirements for asset information during the development of BIM as a whole-lifecycle approach to building projects that is becoming increasingly important.

Digital assets should be identified early to facilitate integrated operations and maintenance. This will subsequently enable the whole built industry to enjoy the fruits of productivity with better quality asset information and sustainability.

Project

Learners are to work on a project using BIM in the areas of construction planning, coordination and/or FM.
