This diving site is located about 20 minutes away from Playa de las Américas in Tenerife. To experience a dive in this place we recommend you contact a diving center nearby which offers the service. The Fox Cave is called this way because it used to be the home of a fox shark a long time ago. Now we can't find this creature anymore, but his home remains for us to visit. Even though we call it “cave”, it is not a real cave, it’s more similar to a passage with few lightpoints from the outside. That’s why it’s a cool place to visit; divers can enter the cave without the need of a cave’s specialty.
You will go to the Fox Cave by boat, and the anchor will be set down at maximum of 18 meters, around the cave. You will be able to take a look inside and outside the cave, as it’s a very interesting and you can see a lot of different fish species and sea life in general. If you are lucky, you will be able to see the current owner of the cave, a gorgeous big puffer fish (Tamboril Espinoso) who is proud to call the cave home. Because of its location, in order to dive here, sea conditions must be really good, so it's not suited for every day of the year and you might need a plan B.
If you want to dive with your own equipment, Vibe Dive Center can organize the trip for you so you can experience this scuba diving site. We always recommend them and we are not the only ones looking at their reviews. Check out their website: https://vibedivetenerife.com/
The boat will set the anchor down at about 14 meters and once you jump of the boat your dive starts.
The intermediate experienced divers (Open Water Certifications or similar), can stay around 18 meters down exploring the wildlife on the platform. Obviously, you are going to see moray eels hidden in the rocks, but besides that, you might find stingrays or a bull ray herd. And sometimes you can also see baby rays.
The more experienced divers might continue going down till the sandy bottom. If you are lucky it is possible to find angel sharks here.
There is a cave with a cross stone which indicates the caves entrance. The inside of this cave is dangerous so, it is not allowed to dive inside but you can take a look. In front of the cave, we find the Carmen Virgin, saint to sea people. And very close, the dolphin tribute to Jacques Cousteau, placed there by the World Association of Silence.
As you can see this diving place has a lot to offer and you can contact aour recommended diving center to book your tour. They are located in Playa de las Américas.
