Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a good week. This week was the 8th week of me being the SCUA Processing intern! It was a busy week, as always, but I got a lot done! On Tuesday, my supervisor, Arielle, and I talked about the reading for this week, along with the outreach project and where I was with the International Student Association (ISA) collection. For the reading, this week was basically a flyer about primary sources. Arielle told me that it’s supposed to help me come up with ideas for the outreach project.
Which led us to talking about my outreach project! I have decided to make a Jeopardy game that introduces some information about the SCUA department, archivists jobs and what they do, and some collections from the archives. I’ve been making questions all week, trying to make them easy enough to where people with basic information can still get some right, but also fun questions and questions that get them thinking. Arielle approved my idea on Tuesday and I’ve been working on it all week, and managed to come up with questions that I think would be good! I also figured out how I am going to show off some of the more interesting collections I have found, basically just make them guess the title of the collection using a photo or two and a hint. I hope that works out the way I want it too.
After we talked about the reading and the outreach project, I got back to working on the ISA collection. On Tuesday and part of Wednesday, I worked on putting all the materials into the Excel-to-EAD worksheet, and also finishing putting all the folder titles, specifically the call number, box number, and folder number, onto all the files. I ended up finishing that a lot faster than I thought I would, and was able to start working on the ISA finding aid on Wednesday. I finished the subject headings, scope and content, biohistory, and everything else but the extent, which I ended up working on and finishing Thursday morning. I submitted it to Arielle for review, and I know I’ll have to make some changes on Tuesday when I come in, but I’m so excited to have finished another collection! The very last thing that I have to do is add the barcodes and titles to the boxes, but figuring out how to work the printer is surprisingly difficult.
Anyways, thank you so much for reading! I hope yall have a good week! See you next time!
