Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good week! This week was my seventh week as a SCUA Intern! It’s definitely been a week, not a good or a bad one, but definitely a week. To start off, on Tuesday, my supervisor, Arielle, and I discussed this week's readings. The first reading was about the Trump Archive, an internet archive with all the televised recordings that Trump has been in/on, which was launched. The intention behind the archive is to give people a way to look at the old stuff, mostly to quote, compare, and contrast the televised statements made by Trump. The second reading was about how Russia has begun to destroy Ukrainian Archives, with the article focusing on the Arolsen Archives, which was a project focused on preserving and publishing evidence of Nazi persecution. We talked about how archives hold a lot of information, and how even if they seem kind of under the radar, some people in higher places who want to erase or change history might want to destroy them.
After we finished talking about that, I was told about the field trip we are taking in a few weeks! We are going to the Rollins College Archives, which will be fun. We also talked about me starting my outreach project, and I have begun to complete my final thoughts before I start working on the full project. After that, I started my work on the International Students Association collection. I finished sorting through all the random piles of photos that I left out last Thursday. On Wednesday, I finished filing everything into their new acid-free boxes and folders. It takes a while to do that, and while working on the folder names, I managed to use the rest of my pencil. It was already pretty used, but I wasn’t able to write with it anymore without hurting my hand because of how small it was. I spent all Wednesday moving the “random” pictures into their folders and boxes, but I did manage to finish the last box that this collection will be housed in.
On Thursday, I showed Arielle the folder names I had, specifically for the unidentified pictures we had in the collection. I was asked to redo a few of them, but other than that, all the folder names were good, and I was told to start working on putting everything in the Excel spreadsheet. After I renamed the folders and started on the Excel spreadsheet, it was time to go home. I have a lot to do next week, but I can’t wait to go back!
Anyway, thank you for reading! Have a nice week!
