Hello everyone! I hope you guys had a good week! This past week was my sixth week as a SCUA Intern! This week was a long one, with a lot to do. On Tuesday, we started by talking about this week's readings. The readings were about different situations that could happen as an archivist, like when confidential government information gets to them, and the process of alerting the right people to deal with the information and materials. The other reading was about an FSU security chief being charged with stealing and selling thousands of comics from the archives. My supervisor, Arielle, and I talked about how the FSU security chief sold the comics and how long it took him to get caught, which was interesting to learn because he was one of the few people who had a key to where the comics were being kept and was under suspicion for a while.
After we finished talking about the week’s readings, I started sorting through the “random” photos in the collection I was working on, the International Student Association collection. A lot of the photos had dates in the corners, or event titles and dates written on the back. And if they didn’t, you could kind of tell the different events apart. There were four files with probably around 200 random photos that I sorted through and sleeved on Tuesday, and I wasn’t done with everything.
On Wednesday, I ended up going in for only an hour before I had to leave. So when I went back on Thursday, I had a lot that I wanted to do in only a few hours. I sleeved the rest of the unsleeved photos, not the random ones, but the ones that were already dated and titled. I had about one half-box to get through, and then I sorted and made sure all the photos were in their stacks with their specific series and subseries I ordered them in. After that, I went through and moved them into their new acid-free folders, wrote their file names, and put them in their new half-box homes. Out of the three boxes I need to do for this collection, I got two done! After I got all of that done, I started working with the random photos again. I had one last folder to get through, and I managed to start it but not finish before I had to leave. Overall, it was a very productive day!
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read this! Have a nice week!
