Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a good week. This week was the 12th week of me being the SCUA Processing intern! It’s been a busy week, as always. This week started off with the readings, both of which were about the statistics of being a librarian/archivist and what some people who work as librarians/archivists think of the job. One of the biggest things that I’ve heard about the field is that you have to be willing to move around for a job, which was talked about in both of the articles. Once my supervisor and I talked about that, we also went over my processing plan, which led to me changing some things on my processing plan, as my series titles were slightly too vague and we were still trying to figure out where to put the awards and photographs within the collection.
On Tuesday I finished putting all the UCF Metro VHS tapes and CDs into their boxes, and started to work on sorting the random CDs and VHS tapes into an order that I would be able to follow, which ended up being chronologically and alphabetically, since some didn’t have dates.
Wednesday is when I started doing some background research, and figured out that PennDesign was a private school that focused on designing cities and stuff like that. I’m still trying to find more information about how they worked with Orlando and UCF, but it’s a start! UCF Metro is a lot harder to find information on, but I haven’t looked through the old school newspaper database yet, so that’s my next stop. I also started sorting through the printed presentations and the CD’s found with them, and matched a bunch of CD’s to the printed presentations. Still, there's a lot of CD’s that I have to go through.
On Thursday, I started going through the newspapers looking for anything UCF, UCF Metro, Channel 24, or PennDesign related. I only found a few things in the stack of newspapers we have, so I cut them out and placed them into a folder to show my supervisor, Arielle, later. I also started sorting and filing the printed presentations into their new box homes, which is what I ended up doing for the rest of the day. I can’t wait to continue doing that on Wednesday, rehoming the materials is probably my favorite part of working on a collection.
Anyways, thank you for reading my blog this week! I hope you all have a good week, and I hope to see you guys next week!
