Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a good week. This week was the 10th week of me being the SCUA Processing intern! It was a good week, with a lot to do and I got a lot done! To start off this week, I had two readings to look at and talk about with my supervisor, Arielle. These readings were about preserving events that just happened or are in the process of happening, with the readings talking specifically about school shootings and COVID-19. The first reading was about preserving the campus memorial after the UNC Charlotte shooting, and the way the archivists accurately preserved the materials while being respectful to the memorial. The second reading was about COVID-19, which started with talking about how archivists or record keepers encouraged people to keep documentation from the time so they can have records of it. The article also talks about how archivists are not immune to the events that happen, and that it can be an emotional path to go down, trying to document the events while also living through them.
After we talked through the readings, Arielle and I talked about my outreach project. We talked about my Jeopardy board, and what questions I should rewrite and how I should write them. After that, we talked about adding another game to the project, specifically a matching game with the same questions Jeopardy has. Once we finished talking, I got started on rewriting the questions, finishing the coloring, and fixing the Jeopardy board. I decided to go with a UCF color palette, and I wanted to make sure that the text was clear and able to be seen by someone in the back of a class, so I’m still decorating the board to make it not so bland while making sure people will be able to use it.
I also started the memory game, figuring out the design and size I want the cards to be and how I should format them. I’ve printed the first couple of cards out to make sure they are how I want them to be. I also want to make sure these cards won’t get destroyed after playing one game, so I want to laminate them and possibly put them on cardstock instead of printer paper. I want to run these ideas past Arielle before I start anything, which I will do next week! I finished everything but writing out all the memory cards! I should be able to finish the outreach project by next week.
Anyways, I hope you guys have a good week! Thank you for reading my blog this week!
