Effective date: Oct 2, 2026
Scrible transcribes audio to text entirely on your device; your recordings and transcripts are never uploaded to our servers.
This Privacy Policy explains how Scrible – Audio to Text ("Scrible", "the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use our Android application. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.
Audio recordings, imported audio files and transcripts are processed and stored only on your device.
Speech recognition runs offline using an on-device model (OpenAI Whisper). No audio is sent to any cloud service for transcription.
We do not require an account and do not collect your name, email or phone number.
The app shows ads through Google AdMob, which may collect device identifiers as described below.
Audio and transcripts. When you record audio or import an audio/video file, Scrible converts it to text on your device. The audio, the resulting transcripts and any edits you make are saved in the app's local storage. We cannot access, read or share them. You may choose to export or share a transcript using Android's share feature; in that case the content goes to the app or service you select, under that service's own privacy policy.
Usage limits. To apply the free daily transcription limit, the app stores your daily usage minutes locally on your device.
Information we do not collect. We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, location, or the content of your recordings or transcripts.
Microphone: to record audio you want to transcribe. Used only while you are recording.
Storage / media access: to import audio or video files you select and to save or export transcripts.
Internet: to download speech recognition models and to load ads. Not used to upload your audio.
Foreground service / notifications: to keep recording or transcribing in the background and show progress.
You can revoke any permission at any time in your device settings. Some features may stop working without it.
Scrible uses the following Google services. They may collect information automatically under their own privacy policies. None of them receive your audio or transcripts.
Google AdMob (privacy policy): shows ads, including rewarded ads that unlock extra transcription minutes. May collect advertising ID, IP address, device model, OS version and ad interactions.
Firebase Analytics (privacy policy): helps us understand how features are used. May collect app instance ID, device and OS info, approximate country and in-app events.
Firebase Crashlytics (privacy policy): helps diagnose crashes. May collect crash logs, device state and app version.
Personalized ads and consent. Where required by law (for example, in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), the app asks for your consent before showing personalized ads, using Google's User Messaging Platform. You can change your choice at any time from the app's settings. You can also reset or delete your Advertising ID in Android Settings > Google > Ads (or Settings > Privacy > Ads).
Your recordings and transcripts stay on your device until you delete them. You can delete individual items inside the app, or remove all app data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling Scrible. Because we do not hold copies, deleted content cannot be recovered by us.
Data collected by Google services is retained according to Google's policies. Firebase Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months by default.
All processing happens locally, which keeps your content off external servers. We rely on Android's app sandbox to protect stored files. However, no method of storage is 100% secure; please protect your device with a screen lock.
Scrible is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will help remove it.
Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR, CCPA or Vietnam's Decree 13/2023/ND-CP), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to processing of your personal data. Since we do not store your personal data on our servers, most requests can be fulfilled directly on your device. For data held by Google, use the tools in your Google account or contact us for help.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
