Privacy Policy for Screenie — Screenshot & Annotate
Last Updated: February 20, 2026
Overview
Screenie is a browser extension that allows users to capture screenshots and annotate them with arrows, shapes, and text. Your privacy is our top priority.
Data Collection
Screenie does NOT collect, store, transmit, or share any user data.
Specifically, Screenie does NOT:
Collect personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
Track browsing history or activity
Access website content beyond the visible tab screenshot
Send any data to external servers
Use analytics, tracking pixels, or cookies
Store screenshots on any remote server
Share data with third parties
Use data for advertising purposes
How Screenie Works
When you click "Capture Page," Screenie uses the Chrome captureVisibleTab API to take a screenshot of the currently visible area of your active tab.
The screenshot is temporarily stored in your browser's local storage solely to transfer it to the editor tab.
Once the editor opens, the temporary data is immediately deleted from local storage.
All annotation editing happens entirely within your browser — no data leaves your device.
When you save a screenshot, the file is downloaded directly to your computer.
Permissions Used
activeTab — Required to capture a screenshot of the current tab. Only activated when you click the Screenie icon.
storage — Used temporarily to pass the screenshot from the popup to the editor tab. Data is deleted immediately after use.
Data Storage
All data (screenshots and annotations) exists only in your browser's memory during an active editing session. Nothing is persisted after you close the editor tab, except for the PNG file you explicitly choose to save.
Third-Party Services
Screenie does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services, APIs, or servers.
Children's Privacy
Screenie does not collect any data from any users, including children under the age of 13.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, we will post the revised version with an updated date. Since Screenie collects no data, significant changes are unlikely.
